my husband's computer was purchased about 2 years ago from a guy that built it himself, so, we have no way to look up the company name, etc. we reinstalled the operating system (windows xp) last night and cannot connect to the interenet. it seems as though we don't have any drivers, especially the ethernet driver which the verizon tech support told us was the problem with connecting. i found on this site a link to free driver downloads, but there are thousands, and not sure what we need.

My HDD have 2 partitions. 1st one has windows xp professional and the 2nd one has xp home. I want to remove the xp home. is it safe to format the partition containing the xp home? what's the best option except formatting the whole HDD?

scan stopped after 20 errors & gave me the report below, my question is: 1. how can i scan the whole disk without stopping after 20 errors found (i'm connecting the hard disk to my pc with USB cable), and 2. can i keep using this hard disk as my laptop hard disk and keep windows on it? or is it not safe? how many bad sectors can i ignore?

Icons on bottom right corner have changed to horzinal and next to start my yahoo ticker beta showed up I have no idea where it came from and under that cyberlink powerDVD shows up I don't know where any of this came from I would like to get it back like it was computers are new to me thank you. i play poker, and do answers at the same time, if i get board of that i go to pogo and play there, if i get board there, i look up things of interest, i read the news as well. what do you do?

Recently, my neighbour received a bill for Rs.35,000/- for the last month for using internet. Is it not shocking for a person using PC at home, sparingly? On enquiry, he has been told that he has failed to switch off the internet connection before leaving the PC. Though I didn't add fuel to the fire by crossing him with questions like how the internet alone could have life when he switches off the PC, etc., the fact remains that the internet connection was 'on' for a long period, which has resulted in the alarming billing. This can happen to most of us. Hence, I want to know whether there is any method which can ensure automatic closure of the internet operations when we forget to do so after our internet work is over.
