I have never done this before. what is the best software to get for creating animations. I need to create an animation of a dog's head popping out of a kennel.

You can use either Flash Professional 8 of SwishMax. I would suggest SwishMax for starting out due to ease of use and cost.

if u want ot to do anmation on ur website then use the Flash Player which in my opinion is the best for such type of things.
there are such software which u use for such kind of things but what i use the Flash player.
i recommend u to use this player which is easy to use as well as to understand

thou its very simple to create using a software called FLASH but beginners like u might find it difficult to create it. but not bad to give a try.
