This may be a stupid question - but i was curious. i really now nothing about cars other than how to drive them.

the other day my wheel hit the curb and cracked (2003 Hyundai Elantra).

first off out of curiosity - what is the purpose of a hub cap? is it just for decoration cause the tire looks bare w/o it or does it protect the tire? i can obviously drive my car w/o it, so what is it's purpose.

secondly how much does a new hub cap cost?

do you know any places or web-sites that sell them cheap or are they cheap - I really don't know.

I was borrowing the car from my mom so I owuld like to replace it, but if it is too expensive she won't care but i'd like to get a new one.

Answers appreciated. Thanks!

Hi, I am thinking on buying a Porsche Boxter. I am used to drive in automatic in fact I have never driven a manual transmission before. What would be the best way to learn to drive manual transmission for a car like this?.

I also heard they have them in automatic, can someone confirm this?, still I would like to know what the best way to learn to drive in manual would be for this car.

I've tried putting salt and cat litter behind/around all four tires, zig-zagging the wheels and many other ways but the car just seemed to slide back to its original position. I know there are physics involved and I tried finding the most efficient technique but nothing worked. In the end we had to get half my neighbors to help us push. Anyone know how to tackle my little scenario?

what would you think if she smiled at you?
gave you a blank stare?
ignored your glance altogether?
walked away?
and what would you want her to do?

My son is 13 years old. He and i love cars. Since we also love exotic animals we love exotic cars, so i bought a Lamborghini Murcielago gt in 2006, and a ferrari 360 spider. He knows how to paddle shift, because i have driving simulators and he understands how to drive an all aspects of the car. He could park the cars for me, you know easy stuff. I have a big property.... and my drive way is huge length and width, so theres really nothing to worry about crashin into and he turns tightly anyway. I was thinking of taking him into a big empty parking lot, out of the main public, and setting up cones for him to practice driving around. I of course would be in the passenger seat with him. Do you think this is okay or am i being an irresponsible parent???

I don't plan on working during college - I just want to focus all on studies. So I'll be taking the bus everyday. By the time I finish college my G-2 would have probably expired already. Do you think it's a bad idea to stop driving for a few years? I'll lose my driving experience, and end up forgetting the rules of the roads.

Another problem is my dad only has one car and I hate driving it because If I crash it, I'll have no way of paying for it. Having my own car is not an option, I can't pay 500 bucks a month for insurance, especially with a college loan up my ***. It's just not realistic for me.

Anyone out there know of a web site that shows such material?
