After a cold start in sub-zero weather, my friend and I argued about the fastest way to warm up the inside of my car. I would always start the car, drive for few minutes, then turn on the heater fan once the engine temp had more or less peaked. My friend, however, claimed that the fastest way to warm up the cabin would be to turn the fan on immediately after starting the car (and at full blast, ideally), thus blowing in cold air before gradually warming up.

I say my way is faster since you are allowing the radiator coolant and heater core to accumulate heat before displacing it into the air with the fan. My friend says his way is faster since you get the first traces of engine heat right away by turning the fan on immediately after startup.

Is my method faster, or is his, or does it theoretically make no difference between the two. Pros? Cons? Is there anyone who has expertise in the transfer of heat who could settle this for us once and for all? Thank you all.

My co-worker got a ticket for sliding off the road (it is snowing pretty good here in Vermont). The cop said it was for "failing to maintain control" of her car. I think this is total BS and she should fight it. She didn't hit anyone or anything, she wasn't speeding (45 in a 65) and there was no damage to her car. Someone in front of her put their brakes on, she put her brakes on and off she went. It happens all the time around here, especially during the first snowfall of the year. Who else thinks she should fight it and does anyone have any advice?

My first car was an auto and i drove it for about 1.5yrs then i got in a car crash from not paying attention and totaled it and now all we have is a manual car..my first night practicing with it i think i got a hang of shifting but i just could not get the starting up thing down..going from a stop to beginning to drive was so hard..it rolls around(either forward or backwards) before i get going and i would always seem to either accel too much or let go of the accel then stall..will i eventually get it? and will i still be able to mess with cds and my cell while driving a manual car?

We have far more coal in this country then the middle east has oil and the technology to use it to create fuels has been around for 70 years. It used to be that it was too expensive to do but now that oil is $100 a barrel it is actualy cheaper! So why aren't we using this technology to end our dependence on OPEC oil?

I just bought a set of SCC Radial Snow Cable today (http://www.scc-chain.com/Traction%20Pages/Trac_SC.html) but I can't figure out how to put it on. The problem I have is how to connect the inside of the tire, the side of the tire that's facing the inside of the car. Am I suppose to reach around it? I cannot see the other side so is this something that I have to practice in order to get the connection behind the tire?

I remember once my mom rented one and we were going down the highway doing the speed limit 70 mph and it sounded like it was struggling lol. Absolutely hilarious. Then she got it to 80 and the thing started shaking like it was epileptic in an arcarde or something.

Freggin hilarious. Would it even be possible to make it fast? I doubt it. Lol.

I am wondering if it makes sense to rent a car that costs $160 for a week-long trip of about 1500 miles OR take my own car and save the $160.

I am debating whether taking my own car will entail higher maintenance expenses for my car later?
