First of all, I assume that you have some experience in the towing business. If not, your bet bet is to get a job with a tow company, so that you can learn how to do the job correctly. If you hook up a vehicle wrong, you can cause thousands of dollars in damage!

Next you have to consider what and where you are going to be towing. Are you looking to do road service towing, or ate you planning transporting vehicles for businesses or auctions? Are you going to be doing inner city work, or is more of your work going to be out in the suburbs?

If you are doing impound or repo work, you most likely want a wheel lift truck, such as a Dynamic, that you can control from the cab! You want to be able to get the car and get out of the area quickly.

If you are doing transport type work, a rollback with a wheel lift will allow you to tow two cars! For road service work, I would also recommend a rollback. Make sure that the truck you choose is able to handle the weight you plan on carrying.

If you are going to be hauling damaged or junk cars, you want to get a steel bed. If you are going to just transport cars, an aluminum bed will be lighter and will save you some fuel.

I prefer the UD and Isuzu rollbacks because they have a much better turning radius than a conventional cab.

In my boating life I have pulled a lot of boats with a lot of different tow rigs. I got into more trouble by not having the right tow rig more times than I can count. The last tow rig I bought I fixed all my problems. I bought a 3/4 ton truck with a diesel and a tow package. All the major brands make a suitable truck but I chose a Dodge. That was a personal choice. At the time the Power Stroke had just came out and Chevy didn't have a suitable power plant. Now either one would be acceptable, it would just be a personal choice for you. I get 24 MPG without the boat behind and with the 4,000 lb boat I get 20 on normal terrain and 18 pulling in the mountains. There is much more to pulling a boat that just having the horses under the hood. You need torque more than horsepower and a stiffer suspension and stronger braking. The 3/4 ton truck has those things. They are in control of the boat and braking chores are much better. That would be my recommendation. Get a Chevy or Dodge 2500 or Ford F250 truck, preferably extended cab or crew cab for the extra riders.

Depends on what u wanna tow!! if you wanna tow cars, get a regular tow truck...about 75 g's. If you wanna make more money, get a big rig tow truck...about 350 g's. Start with one and run it yourself, if busi. is good then get more.
