I was told I need new front brake pads but that the rotors seemed ok.

Can I put the new pads on with the old rotor? Some people have said yes but others have said no.

This is more a question becuase I have the cash to change the pads but not the rotors.

If it is not a good idea, would it be better to wait until I can do them at the same time? I am getting no grinding or anything, they are just starting to get worn.

About 2 weeks ago my car wouldn't start, the battery was dead. I could jump it (took longer than usual though) and ran it for an hour to make sure the battery would be charged. I purposely left the lights on when I took the key out and saw the lights go dim almost immediately. So I bought a new battery and the car ran just fine for the last 2 weeks (I took it on an hour trip so it should be ok).

Just the other day the car wouldn't start just like before. Last time it was more like it wouldn't turn over (I'd hear clicking). Now it doesn't even make a sound (the radio and lights work).

Friends told me this is my alternator (that perhaps I needed a new battery & alternator) or that wires are crossed. Do you know what's wrong?

I never really used the Liquid Wax that buffs into your car before. But I know it makes your car look really good. I heard if it's done in to sun it could damage your paint and takes hours to wax your whole car. Could I get the same shine or results from a spray wax and if so which is the best brand. I have been think of NanoWax, Turtle Ice Wax, or Meguiars Quik Wax. Please any help looking to wax this weekend.

now i checked the fuse box located at the driver seat but none where blown.... i think i blew the dimmer control switch but i have no idea where to look for that or if that is it. any help would be greatly appreciated....

kinda hard at night to hold a flashlight to the gauges while driving.... so i need help asap... thanks

My check engine light came on and I strongly assume it's a pretty serious engine issue being as they have been before. I'm used to dishing out around $300 - $450 when this happens. When it comes to engine work in particular, is Big 10 Tires comparable to a smaller, local mechanic for example? How about compared to Firestone or Kaufmann Tire?

I have an auto. 1990 chevy camaro, I swapped the FI 305 for a carb. 350. All of the following problems have been getting worse and worse over time. My car will stall out and die while at idle after sitting for more than about 2 min. Car will stall and die while I'm driving down the road. Sluggish acceleration, a loss of power, occasionally briefly smell something weird but not often, catalytic converter seems hotter than it should be but not so hot that its glowing, engine running a little hotter than it should. Today it got so bad that it was constantly stalling out and dieing no matter what I did, and at one point I almost couldn't get it to start again, so once it finally started I had to go park it somewhere cause it was so unreliable. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Ok you hear of the transmission fluid flush where they use the machine to "suck" all of the old tranny fluid out. does this only apply to auto transmissions? IS a "flush" needed with a manual transmission or do you just pull the drain plug, drain, and refill?

I just recently got the thermostat on my car replaced and the guy told me that I needed a coolant level sensor because the old was bad and so he disconnected it. After a few days I kept smelling coolant and I looked for leaks under the car but I didn't see anything... After that my temperature guage has been acting wierd. It keeps moving around. One second its at the normal temp then the next its close to the hot temp. And back and forth during the whole drive. The car is not smoking and I opened the hood after driving it for a while and it seemed to be normal. (I touched a few parts) Could this have something to do with that sensor I need or is this another problem...He also flushed the coolant system out when he did the thermostat.

would one tank full off leaded fuel jeopardize the engine system?
should it be serviced over fuel extract and replacement?
what should I do to my vehicle now?

About a week ago my car just quit with no warning. All the lights, air condition, and radio work so I know it's not the battery or altinater (don't know if I spelled that right). My power brakes and power steering stopped working when the car quit. There's a clanging noise, like a piston hitting a valve, coming from the enginge, which suggests that my timing is off. About how much would that cost to fix, or could it be something else.

My fiance's car has been displaying a strange problem. It started when she would hit a bump in the road. The coolant and check engine lights would come one. Then it morphed into all the warning lights and the radio would die. Now last night, all she did was make a right turn, and the car completely shut off. Here's what I'm thinking.

Could something be messed up with the fluid in the battery? As in she takes a turn and all the fluid goes to one side of the battery? Or is it possible that the car is for some reason sensing low/no oil and shutting the car down to avoid damaging the engine?

The car is a 1999 Sunfire GT, automatic with the 2.4L DOHC engine. Thanks!
