I put in a new aftermarket radio in my car and when i would turn on the lights the gauge lights died and the radio died too so i changed the ground (think i ally put the radio ground to the dimmer line for the radio)on it but the problem is i have no running tail lights and my gauge lights don't come on at all....

now i checked the fuse box located at the driver seat but none where blown.... i think i blew the dimmer control switch but i have no idea where to look for that or if that is it. any help would be greatly appreciated....

kinda hard at night to hold a flashlight to the gauges while driving.... so i need help asap... thanks

Look into the BCM (body control module)... usually on the right hand side mounted to the firewall. It's a computer module that handles the dash functions and interior lighting. If it is failing, all sorts of crazy stuff happens.

A chilton's repair manual is cheap and will help you locate that as well as solve a ton of other mechanical problems that may arise.

Sounds like the headlight switch---not the dash dimmer --- is bad causing the taillights to not work as well as the dash lights which get power through the headlight switch. Dimmer switch should be on the dash by the headlight switch if that's the problem. Could also be a burned wire or bad terminal too if you shorted it out but it should have blown the fuse if it was the right amp rating.
Eautorepair.net has online access to service manual and wiring diagrams for a small fee. Parts stores carry Chilton or Haynes manuals though they are not as complete or detailed.
