The first 2 answers are good and correct but i'm NOT replacing pads or rotors.I need to know about the dust shields themselves.

Best option to reduce brake dust is use ceramic pads. They cost more but last longer and have less dust.

Had the dust problem on my daughter's Saturn... don't laugh... It runs 13's at the strip with nitrous.

It has 17 inch wheels. When we added new oversized rotors, we bought the ones with "scraper slots - a curved groove that carries away brake dust and flings it clear of the wheel area. This made a huge difference.

The shields do limit airflow around the brakes to a certain extant but under normal driving, I don't think it will be much of a problem. Ask the manufacturer cust service or tech line people of the product's company for any info in this regard. Cars with regular steel wheels and hub caps don't have much open space for airflow either and they work fine.

my friend all new cars and trucks has disc brake dust shields.....

what i trying to say..... if all cars have it, then it works, car manufactureres will always look for safety and product lasting and that is one of those things they add to all cars

when brakes gets hots then there is another bad part who is overheating the disc not the dust shiel but taking the shield away help to kept the disc cool down but doing that is fixing the problem by adding another problem if you know what i mean

None of the manufacturers recommend these. They can cause the rotors to overheat.
