I have a 98 taurus and had an accident last week because I couldn't stop and ran through an intersection. mechanic said my brakes had been cut, wouldn't this have cause the fluid to show up in a puddle on the garage floor or is the brake fluid line different then what was cut? the mechanic used mechanical terms I didn't understand but even the police said my brakes were cut could someone please explain in normal language what was cut?

Dodgeman, I am not one of those folks who has it out for you but I have noticed that when it comes to tire questions you consistently give answers that are not only incorrect, but could be dangerous. Tires are the #1 safety item on a vehicle so I take these issues very seriously.

For example, today you gave the following advice to about tire pressures: "look on the tire its self, put what the tire says to have in it not what the vehicle calls for, each tire will be different from the original tires that was on it,and the sticker only applies to the original tires in most cases,"

This is totally wrong. The only information given on the tire sidewall is the max load capacity at max pressure, which is the same for EVERY tire in that size & service description no matter what brand or model. It is not a recommended pressure for any vehicle. I recommend studying this link to get up to speed on modern tire technology: http://www.tiresafety.com/images/Tire%20Replacement%20Manual.pdf

This is a warranty dispute with the dodge dealer, they claim my mechanic used the wrong fluid, therefore will not cover anything. I have saved samples of the suspect fluid.

I have a 2001 Grand Cherokee and whenever i apply my brakes, there is a clicking/popping noise coming from my rear passenger brake. There is also a whirling sound whenever i drive. I had brakes put on a couple of months ago and i don't think that is the problem. I had someone look at it and he said that a spring was worn out and it is not doing it's job and is causing the spring to click against the rotor. It's driving me nuts. I'm going to have it looked at today but just wanted to know if anyone else had this problem before. What is the average price to have a rotor turned/replaced by a mechanic (that's what i think the problem is)? Thanks in advance

My wife and I both drive Acura's and have always relied upon the Acura dealer to do the standard maintenance on the vehicles.

Our 1999 3.2 TL has 180,000 miles on it and the 2002 MDX has 115,000 miles on it.

Both cars are running well and no longer have any warranties active.

While we have always kept up the maintenance at the proper intervals at the dealer, we are finding that we are probably spending to much money - felt especially in recent times as we no longer make as much money as we once did.

My question is simple - is the dealer providing something that other mechanics can't?

For example, both cars need oil changes and brakes - should I just go to a Firestone, Pep Boys or another place OR does the dealer bring me peace of mind that I should truly pay them a premium for their work?

What other places (if any) do you recommend to cost-effectively get work done on your car?

I was wondering if anyone knows what can cause this. First off this car is a 2007 Ford Focus Sedan with only 1300 miles on it, I bought it brand new and have taken very good care of it and I don't drive crazy. The other day I went to start my car and all that happend is I heard "click click click". So we jump started it and it worked fine so we drove around for almost an hour to let it charge. When we got home and turned the car off it would not start again. We jumped it a second time and again it started fine and we drove around again, Turned it off and it wouldn't restart, just heard clicking again.
The night before we had been driving in pretty heavy rain, could that have played a part?

i was driving home from out of state and after i stopped to get gas, my car started making a loud clicking noise whenever i put my foot on the gas pedal (if i let go of the pedal the noise stopped), then it said check gauges, my car temp went really high but then went back to normal, check gauges went off, and then a few minutes later the engine light came on. when i pulled off the interstate and put the break pedal on, the car pretty much died. This makes me think something went wrong when I put gas in the tank (I'm pretty sure i didnt accidentally put diesel in, but of course now im double thinking)....anyone know what this might be?

I have a 95 Integra LS automatic. it'll go in drive with no problem but there is no power to the wheels, i think max it'll go is 5 to 10 mph, when i put it in reverse sometimes it go's and sometimes it wont , if it go's it wont let me rev higher than 1.5 rpm, and if it doesnt go it'll rev as much as i want it to but it wont move. sometimes if i try to rev it while in gear, it'll just bog down and cut off. iv changed the transmission fluid which i wanna add was soo dirty it disgusted me. i put something i think its called trans magic but i was debating if i should put the lucas fluid for transmissions. before i did the fluid change it wouldnt shift into anything but drive and even then would only move inches when revved hard. do i have a bad transmission, a bad torque converter, or what ?

I have a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix Supercharger

I bought a duralast battery from autozone 6 mo ago. A couple days ago we had a downpour of rain and i was in it. When I stopped to go into the store to get something and came back out the indicator led lights were bright red and it clicked when i tried to start it but didn’t turnover so automatically i thought the battery was dead.

Somebody jumped it for me and it was fine. The led lights were bright red it was running so i headed home because of the rain. After I got home I let it sit for 2 hours and then tried to start it again and the same thing happened. The indicator lights were on bright red but i just heard a click.and still did not turnover. I have charged the battery about 3 times this week and had it jumpstarted once.

Could it be the bushings, relay, connections, contactors. or the starter must have just worn out. I got the car dec. 05. Do you think i would need a whole new starter?

I have a 98 5.7 chevy engine in my 90 1500 4x4. the 98 engine has the original tbi system from 90 istalled. im guessing to make the computer work properly. the engine runs good but seems to not have much power. my 96 5.0 vortec seems to have much more power. is this loss of power due to the tbi unit installed on an engine that wasn't designed for it? Im just curious. any help would be great thanks.

I just had my neighbor put on front and rear brakes on a 98 honda accord. He put on front pads and he put on rear shoes. Now when i brake, the pedal goes all the way to the floor. Do you need to bleed the brakes if you just put on front pads? Or does it just take a while before the brakes start to stick. I put ceramic brake pads on. Any help would be great thanks!
