I am interviewing next week for a job in Atlantic IA. I've been doing some research and I'm a little concerned about the town - or lack there of. I would like to live where there is some stuff to do - I was thinking in the Des Moines/West Des Moines area.

The only concern I have is the commute. I currently live in a very populated city and even though I live about 10 miles from my job - it takes me at least 1/2 hour to get home.

I'm just concerned about the drive, mileage etc.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Do you flash your brake lights at them? Do you slow down even more, intentionally? Do you just pull over or get in another lane?

Someone was tailing me just 10 minutes ago, and I flashed my brakes at him, and he got closer, so I slowed down even more. So then he followed me into a parking lot and then just took off. It gave me a headache, I got so pissed.

Like on the highway there's a sign that says "caution grooved pavement" and then the road has a million grooves in it. There is no construction going on there, its permanently like that. Its very rough to drive on. What is the purpose of this besides making me ask this question & making me mad when i drive over it?

I heard from a family member that it wastes more gas to drive on the highway rather than just take the streets. [I have an '04 Dodge Neon.] Is this true?

I heard news that the eastern terminus of I-74 in Cincinnati has a proposal of an extension to North Carolina in I-77. It is similar to U.S. Highway 52 which is a diagonal northwest-southeast highway running from Canada to South Carolina. Will the western terminus of I-74 be extended to the Minneapolis/St. Paul area and possibly terminating to I-94? This will be America's first longest diagonal interstate highway. There's also reports that I-69 has an extension proposal to the U.S.-Mexico border.

With bundles of tolls, infinite amounts of exits, a plethora of ramps with dozens of cars coming everywhere, cars all around you, reckless drivers, sharp turns, HOV lanes, and others in your car?

I am going to drive down from the North to visit London. However, I would like to drive to a nearby train station and catch a train in rather than actually drive in London. Where is the best place to do this to/from? Somewhere secure preferably, I don't mind paying more for the added security.

Of course they will drive it. But isn't it kind of weird when you see someone with a truck or SUV who doesn't need it? For example, I see trucks that are ten years old and are spotless! How can that be? I also know a lot of students and singles with SUVs. What's wrong with a sedan? Most people also don't use them for outdoor stuff or off-roading either.

They reduced the speed limit from 45 MPH to 35 MPH on many major roads that are built to drive 45MPH or faster on.

Why are they making our trips last longer?

Being a teetotaler , I was quite regularly "used" as a taxi for family members , as they were quite often got very , very drunk indeed ('blootered'). Drunk people are great back-seat drivers , they tell you when to brake , they tell you when to speed up , they are (or become) very abusive..... I could not be a taxi driver as a living , with total stranger drunks in my car.

I can figure how many gallons and the cost, between the averages: old - 28.5 mpg, new car 26 mpg. But as a sort of cross reference, if I round up to 3 mpg as the difference, then
how would I set up the problem if I drive 10,000 mi./yr. and if gas were priced at $3/gal. ?
