I was told this once and I've been watching for it and it seems to be true. It doesn't seem to matter to men if it's a man or a woman. Anyone have any insight into this phenomenon?

At one time the term "boy racers" was used as a derogatory term covering young men in fast cars (or at least modified loud cars) who drove round town showing how badly they could drive. Sadly I think the term needs updated as women (young women in particular) are now driving more aggressively than their male counterparts.
The lack of courtesy you mention is symptomatic of a mixed up generation of females who want to be liberated, assertive and aggressive but are happy to accept old fashioned gender based courtesy from men!

I recently saw a woman driving with a mobile in one hand, a lipstick in the other while steering with her knees!!!

I know you girls are good at multi-tasking but that really is a step too far.

I think women drivers (on the whole) tend to be 'on a mission' in that they know where they're going and that's the priority, they will get there as quickly as possible, nothing will get in their way, anything else going on is of little interest.

Some one above mentioned tunnel vision and i don't think that's far wrong, blinkered into the job in hand, anything else going on is of no interest such as letting someone out of a junction.

I put this in the same train of thought with women in car parks, they park as close to the door as possible, to make it quicker, to have a shorter walk, to carry the bags a shorter distance.
Men on the other hand think more logically, they park under lights for security and away from the building where there is space around the car to avoid getting the doors bashed by someone in the next bay.
It's about mind set behind the wheel, how you handle the thought processes, how women see the journey as the only thing that matters and men to see the bigger picture.

Going back to original question, politeness is addictive, if you are polite and curteous to everyone it will come back to you, they will thank you for doing it and in turn be polite to the next person when they have opportunity to.

Yes-I let a woman go in front of me in heavy slow traffic-on the back of her car a sign read : All Men Are Slow & Stubborn Just Like This Car- More faulty judgement from women. The people who drive 4X4 can be ignorant too -but men in 4x4s are as bad as women. They just think they are above good manners.

as a women I do let other driver's in on the roads I travel if I am able to do so. I do not think it is gender related but the individual themselves. they do not want anyone to get ahead, have to much on their minds and do not realize it or other factors.

Women drivers are more likely to be looking in "make up mirror 1" (also known as rear view mirror), whereas male drivers are more likely to be looking at other drivers in the hope of finding a pretty girl to gawp at. Therefore, women drivers don't tend to notice that anyone wants to pull out, whereas blokes are working on a "cast a wide net" strategy - let enough people out and one of them's going to be wearing a low cut top.

A similar thing happens when you stop to let a woman cross the road. They look down their noses at you, whereas a man will wave his thanks.

The result? I no longer let women cross the road!

Interesting observation and one I can share. I find it is worst if the woman is driving a large 4x4.

My theory is that they are busy concentrating on the road ahead, it's not a macho thing about deliverately baulking your progress.

'CK' put it bluntly but he's actually right. Operating machinery and other things like spatial awareness comes naturally to men, women are new at this give them a break - men have hunted thousands of years ago, fought in wars, played sports, and driven - women traditionally did none of those things and have started to now so its more of a drain on their minds to process all the information Because men have evolved to do it for thousands of years.

Also women don't stay calm and think rationally in certain situations, which is why boys outperform girls in exams even if the girls are cleverer, because the girls don't stay calm or think rationally. - I saw one of those police videos, a woman was flashed to pull over, and she suddenly accelerated away. So of course they gave chase, and when they finally stopped her she said that "she panicked".

lady's mind works.......I have to be 'there' and only deviate from that thought at controlled points lights 'ahh do my hair' lights change thought back to i have to be there....this is due the short journeys they undertake....men see the big picture and break the trip up into unavoidable stages, so find it acceptable to stop and allow people to enter the main flow of traffic...sorry but true....info: best avoided 20 year old women in 4x4s......
