When the oil runs out or becomes too expensive for the average consumer then alternative energy sources will "sort of" take up the slack. For decades the oil companies have been suppressing the development of a practical electric vehicle (GM had one back in the sixties but you-know-who bought it and made sure no one ever saw how it worked). When the oil companies' heyday ends then we'll have to find other ways of getting around and things will certainly change. We've depended on fossil fuels for so long that we've become spoiled. Not so long ago a trip of 30 miles to see your relatives would have involved a day-long trip and an overnight stay. I don't know if it will come to that but I think the days of cheap, readily-available energy are coming to an end. We've lived high off the hog and now the bills are coming due.

We will never truly run out of gas... what will happen is world demand will outpace supply. When the world needs 100 million barrels per day but can only produce 80 million barrels per day...then the price of gas will sky rocket...making driving an automobile unaffordable for all but the very wealthy

raned? We would walk, bike, ride horses, hook up dog carts. Anyone with common sense could figure it out.

Ever hear of a Stanley Steamer. Google it. You use any fuel to generate steam that drives a steam engine that powers the auto.
Then there's Alcohol, bio diesel, electric vehicles, and other means of motive power.

Laugh at people crying about it and wondering what to do, wondering how all those people in those old loud Mercedes were still going around.
