Agreed. What's the point of having a vehicle that's designed to do something, in this case off roading, and use it only to drive? Simply put, while the drivers of these vehicles think it "looks good" - or gives some sort of "status" - to the rest of us they're simply foolish. To have something for simple appearances makes people like me think there's a self esteem issue involved - and that's just plain juvenile.

Unfortunately, plenty of individuals (adding it appears your pal) think that SUV=outstanding powers. These are generally the individuals who look at the information after a hurricane announcing how they have been simply riding alongside whilst their Canyonero slid off the avenue "for no rationale". Any auto will skid whilst the forces on it exceed the grip of the tires. 4x4's and SUV's will have just a little extra grip, however it isn't limitless, and it isn't up to nearly any automobile might have on a dry avenue. You've acquired the correct perspective. If you spoil a automobile due to the fact you have been going too speedy for stipulations, you'll burn each minute you ever received through going forty five in a 30 zone in the course of the snow, to not point out the money to get the automobile constant, and the larger coverage.

It irks me to see the soccer-mom with her Armored Urban Assault Vehicle... in suburban areas where there is NO need for an SUV, 4x4 or such. Here in the San Francisco Bay Area it's disgusting to see 70% of the vehicles being SUV's.
NOW, I also spend a great deal of my time up in the RURAL Sierra's (as opposed to Tahoe), where everyone has a 4x4 of some nature because we get a few feet of snow by this time of year... and we have a 50-75 mile drive to a grocery-department store. We ALSO own diesels more often... AND we have a "distance /commuter car" that gets 35 mpg.
I have NO problem with someone keeping their vehicle in GOOD shape, that probably means they are doing the maintenance to keep it RUNNING clean and well.
AS to those who say "heck with it, it's their money"... SUV's are a large part of reason that our air sucks, gas costs so much, we're in Iraq, and why Ford, GMC, Chrystler are going broke.
I own a 1992 Ford F-150 for work (contract painter/ stagehand) that I converted to diesel / bio-diesel, and I walk , take the train, or ride my bike 85% of the time.

Did you ever think that maybe your just jealous or envy those people?? Also, just because somebody's vehicle is in good condition doesn't mean that they don't drive it, its called taking care of it, something young people nowdays have no idea about.
I have an old willy's jeep, but it doesn't see winter and I drive it in the summer and still go off road and trail riding with it. Your not supposed to beat the crap out of your vehicle, it won't run long!

The sad thing is that trucks and SUVs have become status symbols in some circles. If you don't have one, you aren't "cool".

No. Don't bother me a bit. What they do with their stuff is their business. Who in the world cares who owns what, or how much? If they got time to wash it, insure it, and make the payments. That's up to them. Personally I haven't got time for all that. I haven't got time to notice who,s got what and if they use it or not. If I do happen to notice someone having something nice, I'm happy for them! God tells us not to covet thy neighbors, wife, nor his belongings. Which means don't desire for them, or be jealous of what is his. Sounds like you need to work on yourself in this area. But that's okay! None of us are perfect, especially me! (smile) La Donna

The way I see it; It's their money, if they want to spend it on something they don't use then that's their business. And if they don't use them that even better for the enviroment. I could fully understand people not using them nowadays with the price of gas so sky high.

Lots of people like this. What is the point of a high dollar car when you can get a ford or a honda? A corvette when you can get a civic? Personally I drive a small truck for the 30ish mpg. when I feel like it i drive my k-10 play toy.
