How many car accidents have you actually watched happen, or you were there when they happened...? Not just driving past them afterwards.

I ask because I've seen a LOT of them in the past two years, and I'm not sure if it's just because I have a long commute. I want to know, is this common among people with long commutes?

I am looking at apartments around Westwood, Hermosa and Redondo Beach, and USC, but my job is located in Commerce. Is it a really dumb idea to be looking at apartments in those areas? I'm a little concerned about the commute...I've heard horror stories about LA traffic, and I don't want to be stuck in traffic for hours on end. On mapquest, most of these places are about 20 miles from my job...will that end up taking me 2 hours to get there? Or is the traffic not that bad and you can expect to get to work in about 30 minutes? Any advice would be helpful.

I'm sure this is one of those questions that there is no "simple" answer, so let me specify. Say I'm just cruising along going around 30, making it so I could put my car (98 ford escort SE, btw) in 3rd or 4th and both would run smoothly. Which saves more gas? I'm pretty mind-numbingly dumb when it comes to cars, so save any BS you're going to give me. Best answer goes to the person who clarifys it the best.

While driving through West Virigina and Maryland I noticed an abundance of signs requesting that slower traffic stay to the right, also there were many signs stating that trucks over a certain weight were not allowed in the left lane. Though people don't always follow them, it is a nice reminder.

I'd like to have signs like these put up in Ohio, I do a great deal of interstate driving and have had a lot of time to think and evaluate the traffic situation. For as many two lane interstates we have there are far too many rude individuals who clog them up by driving below the speed limit in the left lane. I think the signs would help lower the amount of angry drivers (like me, hehe) who get stuck behind those who aren't considerate enough to move out of the way while not doing the speed limit.

and sometimes... not even that
(most of their capital gains come from Soda Pop and snacks)

so where does all that gas money go?
to Exon and other large oil companys?

You would THINK so, but actually, their cut is around a mere10 cents.

the truth is that the money is soooo dispersed among many different entities. the drilling, the transportation, the refineries, the middle-men....

everyone who's anyone is taking a cut.

not to MENTION the fact that the federal government takes almost 50% of any would-be profit.

We obviously need to move beyond dependency on fossil fuels. but as for now....

to many people ....too many companys... have their hands in the cookie jar, and even though WE as a society *think* we want fuel alternatives, a great percentage of us depend on it's revenue.

What are your views on the high prices of gasoline?

We want to reduce dependency on foreign oil. A 55 mile per hour speed limit would reduce oil usuage I am told to eliminate the need to import oil.
