It truly depends on the money that the job is paying, do you really like the job and also is your car good on gas. I have to travel at least an hour (I go to the beach to work-I live in a small town near it) unless there is traffic then it can turn in to an hour and a half. As long as you are not tried by the time you get to work, your not spending a fourten on gas, you like the job and they are no other jobs closed to hope, I think that its okay.

It depends. You didn't say if you were driving, carpooling, or taking public transportation, nor where you were located. You didn't say how far you had to cover in that hour and a half. You also didn't say anything about the job.

I once had a job where it took me 45 minutes to commute 12 miles. Traffic was tough and the job wasn't all that pleasant. I found radio stations I liked and brought some CDs with me. The return trip was just as bad. In all, each day I would commute 24 miles in an hour and a half.

Now I have a job where I commute 26 miles each way and it takes an hour and 15 minutes. I drive about 12 minutes to the train station, ride the train and then walk about half a mile to work. The return is, of course, just the opposite. I spend two and a half hours commuting each day. I get to read or snooze on the train, I don't have to drive much and get in a short walk right before arriving at work early. I love this job!

So, with a monthly ticket for the train, I spend about one dollar each way on the train, on a daily basis- 20 working days a month; 40 trips. I spend about a gallon of gas a day (I have an SUV- your mileage may vary). That's another $3.00 per day. It's about $12.00 per day or so to drive the SUV round trip to work and back.

Let's make a few assumptions about you. Le't s assume you love your job, have a car you love to drive and it gets 20 MPG. and you can take a train like I do.

If you drive 5 miles to the station daily, 5 miles back, 5 days a week, you drive it 50 miles a week. At 20 MPG, that's 2.5 gallons of gas at $3.00 or $7.50. If you have a train pass like I do, then per week, it's $10.00 for the ride. $17.50 a week to get to work and home. Not bad. Unless you take your lunch, you will probably spend more than that feeding yourself during the week.

Let's say you drive the entire route- say, like me, it's about 50 miles. That's 250 miles a week- you're putting some miles on the car rather quickly that way, but if you have a quality car and take care of it, that's probably OK. You love to drive it, remember? That's 12.5 gallons of $3.00 gas for $37.50 a week. the down side is that you are spending an hour and a half in traffic- not really nice, even if you do love your car and your job.

The difference is about $20 a week. Another way to look at this is "Will you skip the traffic and wear on your car for $20 a week?"

You didn't say what the job paid. Even if you love your job, you are getting paid, and for some people $20 a week is $80 a month, and that can make a lot of difference sometimes. If you are working the fryer at McDonald's, then an hour and a half and the accompanying expenses may just be too much. Since you asked the question and missed the grammar, then I will assume that you aren't pulling $100K and driving a new Audi to work.

Also- if you don't like your job, any commute will be too long.

So- a simple question that wasn't that simple at all. You have to make some decisions to answer your own question. Good luck and happy commuting!

An hour and a half is a measure of time. Asking how far is a question of distance. I guess it all depends on the distance covered in that hour and a half. If your in a major metro area, an hour and a half might be 40 miles in bumper to bumper traffic, or it could be a 90 mile drive over open roads.

Ask yourself this - "do I want to spend 3 hours a day driving to/from work?"

For me, the answer would be no.

Is it for you? Only you can decide.

Personally, I wouldn't do it. I did once for about 10 months, but I was working on a project for a company that had a branch office in another town. I only went there 3 times a week. Gas was also less than a buck back then. :-)

Depends on you. I wouldn't do it, but if you don't mind spending 3 hours of your day in your car and the job pays enough for you to maintain your car and pay for gas, then it's fine. That said, time is money. You're losing 3 hours every day you go to work! That's 3 hours you won't be using being with your friends or family or enjoying your hard-earned money. Ultimately, it is your call.
