Is there anything under there like a bigger fan or anything that would stop you from putting a regular flat engine cover from a base line 911? I really like the lines of the original 911 and don't really like wings on them.

I am not quite yet in the financial position to buy a porsche but will be soon. I really cannot afford a Porsche more than $7000, so i have been looking at 912's as they have the 911 shape I have to come to love (as well as no post-73 impact bumpers).
I could put up with a 914, but am not sure about any of the front engined coupes. A well sorted 3.2 Carrera would be perfect, but what kind of condition would it be in for $7000?

Right now I am planning but any advice would be great!

I'm referring to basically the body colour and the interior (e.g. seats, dashboard, door panels, etc.).

Also can you really pick any color?

I have about $4,000 and I'm working on growing that sum to something larger. I've read that the timing belt has to be changed every few years and that I'm going to have to maintain the car since it's from the '80s, but other than that I'd love to get this car. I've heard that this car's value is as low as it will be and will soon become a classic. I also discovered that it was made out of Audi/VW parts. Can I use Audi/VW parts on this car to reduce the costs of buying Porsche parts? Is this a good idea?

Thanks.

I want to update my 911 to a later 3.6 or 3.8L from the original 3.0

The 915 tranny has been rebuild, and the rest of the car is ready.

Thanks!

Just wondering what everyone's favorite Porsche is!

2007-09-24 10:58:19 · 9 answers · asked by Carrie M 1

I was wondering what my 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera is worth?

It has a 3.2 liter, 6 cyl engine. 60k miles. "Good" condition (paint, interior & mechanics). The car is primarily driven on the weekends (kept covered inside a garage in Virginia).

I'm just not sure whether I want to keep it long-term or not. Its nearly paid off, but insurance, maintenance and parking costs have me weighing my options.

Also, should I expect the value to escalate once it becomes an antique (25 yrs old)? Should I get antique plates and antque insurance in that case?

by the way...I truly love this car. not many people get to buy their dream car at age 23...but eventually I'm sure I will have more important things to spend my money on...like a house. :)
thanks for the input.
