And how much do you think it would cost to fix the engine?

I would never own such a car, simply because theyre terribly expensive to fix.

The saying is: The cheapest porsche will always be the most expensive.

THAT BEING SAID, you would be stupid not to pick that beast up as fast as you possibly could. THeres prob 5+grand in readily sellable parts on the car. Rear hatches are worth good money, as are those phone-dial rims. and a buncha other parts are too.

It's not a bad deal, but I am not sure I would say it's a good deal. I don't see mention of what year 944 it is... though from the steering wheel and some of the trim I would guess it's somewhere in the '85-'87 range. Assuming the car were in perfect condition, it could be worth $5k... though the fact that it's an automatic transmission will cut into that quite a bit as most potential buyers of a Porsche won't want an automatic... so, I think you are looking at a car with a potential value somewhere in low $4k range... and since the car is not perfect condiution (good from what I can see, but not perfect), let's just call it a generous $4k (realistically it will still be alot less since this car has a salvage title).

Then we have the issue that there are some problems - unknown problems. A prepurchase inspection may clear this up, but the timeline for the sale will probably make that impossible... if there are real engine issues going on, you will most likely not escape for less than $2-3k. Which puts you just about right at the price it's selling for. Not a great deal, but not exactly a bad one.

However, there could be other problems... which would quickly make this cheap car one of the most expensive cars you could possibly own. So the real way to look at the car would have to be what you think you could part it out for if you had to. And on that front, you could almost certainly make back the $1k invested. Though there is alot of time and effort involved if you had to go this route.

Personally, I would avoid the car as it strikes me as having too much potential to be a drain of money and/or energy. But for the right person, it could be a nice project.

no its not a good deal. and on a 944 an automatic is not a good deal. i own a 944 and a few things you have to look at are has the belt been changed recently, is it the original clutch if it is at that mileage i guaranty the rubber on the back of the disc has failed, and your riding on the limp home feature (excellent feature you can hardly tell the disc has failed) secondly are they the original CV joints the original if the are i guaranty they are bad. new clutch 400 to a $1000 if you do it yourself 1500 to 2500 from a shop. 65 to $100 for CV joints 4 on car engine parts are just as high. honestly from one 944 owner to a prospective one $995 is to low for a good car chances are at that mileage and that price you would put more money fixing it than you initially paid and its worth. if it was a reasonably good shape 944 na most would charge form around 3000 and up average 4000 middle of road car and newer 89, 91, 94's get into 10 thousand range. and at that mileage i defiantly would not use it as daily driver. mine has considerably less mileage and is a garage toy. as for the answer no its not when you put the cost of repairs into it you should probably buy a more expensive, less miles, better shape car and even at that prepare to spend some money on up keep. 944's cost money ask any owner

NO NO NO, it might be a Porsche for a 1000 but it has a SALVAGE TITLE, it is better to just pay 3k to 4k for a good condition and clean titled 944, but if you can get it for less thean 700 then just buy it and drive it and just enjoy it till it dies it probably is a good first Porsche. Just go and do it for 700 and enjoy it as long as it last which looks like 5 years because it is a Porsche which last extreme times. If this is your first Porsche buy it. BUT DO NOT BUY TO BRAG ABOUT IT, IF YOU WANT TO DO THAT THEN GET A 7 K 944 OR UP.
GOOD LUCK

$995 dollar money pit . Run Like HELL!!!! body is tight but depending on what type of work or parts the car would need will cost major dollars if you can find them because the car is more then 10 yrs old. most parts will not be around to buy and it's and automatic. Plus I've had one of these cars and the do handle like on rails but their not that quick and A/C doesn't keep you cool in the summer. The ticking noise he hears is more then likely a valve spring. That

Yes, it seems to be a good deal (sight unseen). And yes, you could sell it if you didn't like it in the future. Just please realize that it is a Porsche, not a Honda. The purchase price is only part of the story. There WILL be maintenance costs, and they WILL be pricey at times. Also, the Boxster is hard to work on due to the location/configuration of the engine. If you are prepared for all of this, then it should be a good car for a long time, even daily driven.

I think it is an interesting Project Car.
Are you a mechanic? Do your or any family member own a car shop, repair shop.... if yes, well than go for it.
Will this be a weekend car? An addition to the collection? If yes..... go for it.
But if you think investing in this car to be your primary car, forget it. This has been and always will be a toy car and toys are expensive.
But if you want a car that stands out and you have the necessary financial and time means to afford it... than have fun and enjoy

I would buy it in a second, but I have a spare motor and the ability to fix it. Porsche is a great car, but if you don't have the capabilities to do it yourself, don't. Paying someone to do it is worth more than the car, unfortunately.
