SES light came on and so I brought it to the dealer. They tried scanning it but they told me the ecu was somehow blocked. So now they want $80 to reset it. Anyway I can do this myself? If so, then how? Thanks

My engine is making sort of a knocking noise??? I don't know whats going on. All fluids are normal and I get regular oil changes. Now, in March I did have the alternator replaced and got a new battery. The knocking started about 2 months ago. My car does have a lot of miles...206,000. I tried checking some things myself and I noticed a hose not connected to something...could that be the problem? I posted this question yesterday but I failed to add that when the car sits in idle for a little while(like in a drive thru or long stop light) it starts to overheat a little...what's that all about?

I bought a nissan altima 2.5S last summer and it makes a sound like a basketball is bumping in the trunk when I slow down and take a sharp turn but there is nothing in the trunk. There doesn't seem to be a pattern because I don't always hear the noise. Also I can't really locate where the sound is coming from but it seems to be under or in the back of the car. Has anyone had something similar. Any suggestions?
I also had a question about gas mileage. It is a 4 cylinder car and I had read that it should get between 23-29 mpg. I am ranging between 22-23 mpg in city and highway driving. Is there anything I can do to improve the mileage?

It is coming from the engine because I had my mechanic check the exhaust for any kinds of gaps or breaks. I have heard that it could be a number of things (alternator, vacuum, etc). Just wondering if anyone has a better idea. The car does not make the noise when idling, only when it is being driven.

yes, thats right. The best mechanics, some from the Nissan dealership say that all parts of my car are good - There is fuel pressure, the spark plugs are working, the starter is working. But the car doesnt start. The computer diagnosis tells them that the catalytic converter is bad - but my mechanic says that even if its damaged, the car should atleast start. No one at my city is able to help me. I request you all to suggest a solution for me!

I've noticed on cold days that my heater starts blowing "cold" air while I'm at a long red light or in a long line, with my engine running. Is this the thermostat? While I'm cruising down the freeway, it blows nice and hot. I can't believe a 2004 would already have heater problems. Of course I don't know how it was taken care of before I bought it in July. I guess in the heat of the Texas summer I didn't even check the heater!

Oh, and also - the brakes are starting to sqeek!!! I hope I didn't get burned. I traded in a "wonderful" 98 Nissan Maxima that never gave me a single problem since day one of it's life. I wish I'd kept it, now. I like the Altimas, but this one seems to be having problems quite early. Man I tell ya, that Maxima was a darn good car and power? yea. I was just burned out and wanted something "new" & stylish. Any advice?? Please don't tell me not to buy Japanese. I love Nissan!!

We are considering buying a new 2007 Nissan Quest. Would appreciate feedback from owners who have recently purchased a 2007 Quest. Any thoughts on the trim that is the best bang for your buck? Any quality/performance issues? Your comments would be greatly appreciated. We currently own two Nissans and are not happy with the styling on the Odyssey nor the the Sienna's safety ratings.

I am planning to buy the new Nissan Altima 2007 2.5 S model but i found out that ABS is not standard but optional on the car. So that got me into thinking whether ABS is a must have or a good to have option. I had a honda civic before and i have roughed it a lot but never lost control, it didn't have ABS on it.

Let me know your answers keeping in mind the Altima.
