Yes. They are pretty dependable and usually outlive their payments. I've had American cars that died the day I paid them off.

Yes for the most part. I've had 2 now. A 98 Nissan Maxima was about the best car I've had. Never a single problem, of course I kept it well maintained & proper oil changes, all the required stuff. However, I just traded it for a 2004 Altima (regretfully) and I'm already having some problems with the Altima. It had 42k miles and about a month after bringing it home the brakes started squeeking and my front end seems to have an issue of some sort. I guess maybe the person who owned it previously may have been a brake driver or something. But I still say Nissans are fantastic and very dependable for the most part. They usually go for years and years, with about 300k miles or more possible before needing retirement. Especially if well maintained!

It all depends on what Nissan you are buying. Is it a used one or a new one. Personally, like any other car, Nissans have their bad points and their good points. I remember the early 90's Pathfinders and HardBody pickups rotting to the point their frames broke. Mostly, any Nissan built before the mid 90's is questionable, unless you're getting the car from someone you know, like a family memeber. Depending on where you live is also a factor. The later model Nissans, 98 and up, are decent cars, and it all depends on how they were taken care of. Again, if it's a used Nissan, ask for maintainence records, etc. Take it to your mechanic and have him do a thorough inspection, if he charges a fee, it may be well worth the money to make sure you're not buying a pile of junk like I looked at, cars brought in by some of my customers. One of my brothers has a 2004 Altima and he has had very good luck with the car, although he's a maintainence freak because he's not a car guy and I'm always making sure he gets the car in my shop for scheduled oil changes, etc. My 2 other brothers own Honda Civics and my mother has an Accord. My wife works for a Honda/Lincoln Mercury dealer in Rhode Island, but she drives a Mercury, go figure, LOL!! Personally, for the money, I'd go with Honda or Toyota, only because of their dependibility and resale value. It all depends on the year and model though. Research the car accordingly and decide what's best for you, The best way is by word of mouth, ask friends or coworkers who may own Nissans and find out their experiences with a certain model. That's what I suggest to my customers. But above all, do your homework before you put your hard earned cash into what could potentially be a lemon.
