20 year old Nissan Skyline Cars are way to hyped! Video games I guess. Three things keeping them out of the United States. #1 in Japan they drive on the right. #2 Skylines will not meet the stricter US Emissions standards or run very well after cat converters and egr is tacked on and less than 99 octane is used. #3 Crash standards, head lighting and Occupant protection.
But you can buy a better handling and stopping car with 300hp now called the 350Z and factory warranty too!

As of now, I believe this is only a mainland Japan sold car. Which means the steering wheel is on the wrong side for starters. You have to remember there are some differences with safety items on foriegn MARKET cars vs what's legal in the US. Bumpers are one example. We have a federally mandated requirement that all cars sold in the US have 5 MPH bumpers. Not necessarily the case overseas. Emissions are also very strict in Cali, more so than anywhere else. I don't know what the Japanese goverment stipulates as far as emissions, but it could be less strict than CA. Everything you buy here is made to US spec. I do remember hearing somewhere Nissan might consider a version for the US market.

they're VERY difficult to make legal in california, so basically yes. Other states aren't as anal about it. It cali, mass, penn and rhode island that require the skyline to have an OBDII system fitted, which is next to impossible in a skyline. the other states aren't worried about OBDII.

I would think so, for the moment it is not sold as a production car in the US .. so by default, it has not been approved for sale in the US ( crash testing ans such)
It will be for sale in fall 2007 though.

And in relation of California to most if the US .. California has more stringent pollution standards ... thereby reducing the number of available models of cars.

All import vehicles have to pass emissions testing and, ugh, crash saftey testing which means at least ten vehicles will surrender their lives to the crash barriers.
PS -- you can't afford one, kid.
