Usually they don't go bad for a long time. You have to check to make sure that it isn't giving the pulses to the computer to tell if it is bad. No reason to change it if it is good as they aren't cheap. Most cars nowdays mount them near the harmonic balancer and a few have them on the transmission bellhousing. Never having seen one go bad on an Xtera, or a Nissan truck for that matter I can't advise you as to where it actually is. your manual will tell you that. It is basically a magnetic assembly that pulses a tiny current as teeth on either the harmonic balancer or the transmission bellhousing go past it. That tell the computer where the crank is in the cycle and which plug/injector to fire. Unless it is behind the harmonic balancer like some of the old GM's then it should be a rather easy job. Usually a couple of bolts and unplug the wire once you get access to it by removing belts or covers in the way.

it really is on the motive force's aspect of the trans bell housing as previously stated. It helps to have some lengthy extensions to be able to get up to it and nevertheless have room to reveal the ratchet. once you've help, someone above to assist practise guide the socket and carry the sensor will be reliable. purely be careful now to not drop a bolt into the carry for the sensor. Alot of persons will notch the bracket on the hot sensor so the subsequent time they ought to replace it they purely loosen the bolts truly than eliminating them thoroughly.
