Would a mid 1980's Ford Mustang w/3.8 Liter V6 be a reliable car to own if you just want a car that can get you from point A to B and it would be reliable enough to travel from town to town if you're not expecting alot of power/performance?

I mean, there could not be two more opposite products and philosophies that i can think of, what will happen to bumper stickers that state, "Chevy drivers don't allow friends to drive Fords" or something like that?.. sign of the times i guess, i wasn't aware that Ford owned Jaguar and and some other foreign automakers either...

Ok, an interesting concern that is plauging me and one the more experiance ford mechanics could probabily answer. I have a 1994 ford f-250 4wheel drive,superduty,7.3l diesel e40d tranmission. and it is the e40d I am having problems with. the transmission is freshly remaned because it blew up. but the truck has had a problem where is will not shift automaticly you have to manually shift from 1 to 2 to 3 the overdrive will not work the tach has quit working. this is a problem that plauged the truck since before the reman trans. the trans controler/tach fuse was blown and replaced and did not blow again. I'm getting ready to start getting the wireing harness out of the looms to visual inspect because my snap-on 2500 scan tool will not talk to the trans ecu. it's been about 6 years since i worked at a ford dealer so if anyone can help with idea about the more common problems on these e40ds in this model year I'd appreicate it.

I've had my car for a year this month and when I press the brakes I hear this annoying squeeling noise. It doesn't do it all the time just like 75% of the time. Do I need new brakes already?

Prob. is the car stalled on me and won't start. I checked the fuses and I they are all in order. The battery has been re-charged and the car would not even start with a boost. The starter appears to be working as it is making an honest attempt of starting the engine. It just seems that gas is not being picked up. I'm trying to eliminate all possibilities before buying a new fuel pump.

Is it a good vehicle to have as an around town and travel kind of car, that would also be good on extreme off road adventures? How about storage space? Would it be ideal for camping trips? (i.e. enough room to hold everything and then some?) I have bad experience with Fords. Is this one an exception, or do screws pop out of this one to?

I have an automatic 2001 Focus SE with about 42000 miles on it and recently I'll be driving and the car will downshift for a second or two and then shift back into gear. The result is that the engine revs up, and I slow down a bit.

I noticed this a few months ago and took it into the dealer, but they said they couldn't find a problem. I had an oil and filter change done at the same time and the problem seemed to go away, but recently it started up again. I'm seeing it at least once a day now (two 10 mile drives).

Any ideas?

i have a ford ka 2003 1.3 duratec engine, its done 15000 miles.as i go up through the gears,i can feel a slight hesitation.some days it will hesitate more than others although its not appearing to cause a major problem with fuel economy and driving.ive had it put on a diagnostic machine but no fault was found.the spark plugs have been changed, redex put in the petrol and a new ignition pack put in,all leads and wiring has been checked,i have no air leaks but i still have this irritating problem, can anyone tell me what they think it might be as nobody seems to have any idea, not even my mechanic who has been doing my cars for years, thanks.

I have a 1989 Ford escort with a 1.9L CFI motor. It is a great gas saver to go back and forth to work. The problem is, It does not want to start when it is cold at approx. 38 degrees it will not start. Normally you can hear the fuel pump when you start it, But I could not hear it come on when you try and start it in the cold. I have done alot to it over the last year, tune up, tires, module on distributor, coolant flush, Temp sensor, O2 sensor. prior to that it had been sitting for 3 years. I know it is old but I really like this car, and it saves the miles on my new car. Plus cheap on Gas. Any Ideas?

Hey my question is why doesn't Ford bring the European Focus ST over here to the States. Ford does sell the ST here, which comes with a slick interior with many nice features and a very nice 4 cylinder 2.3 litre Duratec motor that cranks out 151 horsepower. Don't get me wrong that is a sharp looking car. But over the Atlantic in Europe they have a faster and more sharp looking version of the Focus ST. The European ST is a hatchback (which their hatchback is completly redesigned front and back, not like here as the newer hatchbacks have only the front redone) which comes with very fast 5 cylinder 2.3 litre Duratec turbocharged motor that cranks out about 225 horses. I believe if Ford started to market the European version of the ST here in the States, they could compete very well with other cars that are in the same category. Such as the Chevrolet Cobalt SS and the Dodge Neon SRT-4. So does anyone know the reason why Ford will not bring the European ST over here to the States?
