If you want an automatic:

If you are looking for a 6 speed (or any manual transmission) I would go with Tremec:

If you need an automatic get a C-6 but if you need a manual 5-Speed go with a Tremec T-5 but ask for a Heavy Duty one. They're only a little bit more expensive but well worth it. I have 2 Mustangs with 302 motors in them and just replaced a regular T-5 with a Heavy Duty one because the regular one couldn't take the power from the motor.
It would be best to learn from my experience so that you don't end up having to replace yours sooner than you would have to with the Heavy Duty one.
Also, find a reputable transmission shop and have them rebuild your current tranny...you could save a bundle.
Good luck!

you could in reality BOLT A 351 CLEAVLAND as a lot as A 302 TRANY THE 351 C BLOCK IS A SMALL BLOCK . yet make confident you take advantage of THE 302 MOTOR MOUNTS ON TNE 351C . I trust IF ITS A automobile TRANY you'll desire to apply THE 302 FLEX PLATE counting on in case your TRANY IS A C4,C6 OR FMX style.verify THIS OUT BEFOR YOU MATE both UP OR it will make FOR a huge HEAD soreness. it form of appears like distinct labor yet I have achieved this replace. guy changed into IT well worth IT. have relaxing TAKE some time BE secure WITH THE palms BRAD

are you racing it or hauling it? If you like to race, I would suggest a Tremec 5 speed. I don't know everything about cars, but I do know that you can't hit a power band very well on an automatic without a turbo. also, If you ever get stuck in mud or snow, it's nice to have a five speed (or 6) to throw it into first and scrape on by. I love the power band, though. I toasted a mazda6 and a camaro the other day with my 4cyl 1.9L Ford Escort. HA! that'll teach you to laugh at MY dinky car...

Get a Turbo Hydramatic 400(TH400). Cut C4/C6 small block Ford bell housing to mate it to the TH400. Got 70 more passes with 700HP between rebuilds at the drag strip. C6 good for maybe one day at best, 6-7 passes. C4, forget it, had to change every other run. PS Ford still can't design a durable auto trans, hence no auto in the original Taurus SHO.

the C-4 is the one used with that, but a C-6 is so much better it is a heavy duty transmission.
