Prob. is the car stalled on me and won't start. I checked the fuses and I they are all in order. The battery has been re-charged and the car would not even start with a boost. The starter appears to be working as it is making an honest attempt of starting the engine. It just seems that gas is not being picked up. I'm trying to eliminate all possibilities before buying a new fuel pump.

It is reset, Try this- have someone turn the key on while hitting the tank with your hand or a rubber mallet. If the pump starts working then you know the pump is gone out. Check and be sure that the timing belt isn't broke. This is a more common issue.

if the switch is all the way down.. the inertia is fine... but as people said, listen for a fuel pump sound and see if you hear it kick on..removing the back seat by kicking the front of the cushion rearward on both sides to disengage the locks works for me...

But how are you so god honest sure it's fuel? You didn't say how it was starting... if it sounds weird when you are trying to start it over, another thing to look for is a broken timing belt... No signals coming from CCRM Module (which provides power to engine computer and surprise .. the fuel pump and is a known issue)... find out what you have and don't have first before jumping the gun.. best at a mechanic shop or with a shop manual to diagnose before pumping a ton of money (as for example that CCRM is about $150 at the Ford dealer and is called a constant control relay module)

..stomp it to the floor and see if it starts? What the hell you ask? If it starts and only runs with your foot to the floor, it means the belt jumped and is common to the stall condition with no start...

oklatom is wrong. The IFS (inertia fuel shutoff) switch is located behind the driver side kick panel if it's a sedan/wagon. Behind the right hand side trim panel in the trunk, if it's a coupe. The fuel pump on these cars DO NOT require fuel tank removal for access. Simply remove the rear seat lower cushion. There is an access panel secured by four screws, if access to pump is necessary. Hope this helps. Good luck.

if when you turn the ignition on you hear the fuel pump buzzing then it isn't the fuel pump.
i have had it where the catalytic converter colapsese and then the engine wont start.
remove the down pipe and then try to start the car, if it starts and runs ok then the cat is blocked and you need a new one.

hope it helps

Turn on the key and listen. Is the fuel pump running? If not, just jump the switch, if it runs then, replace the switch, if it doesn't, start dropping the tank...you've got a fuel pump to do.
