Hey my question is why doesn't Ford bring the European Focus ST over here to the States. Ford does sell the ST here, which comes with a slick interior with many nice features and a very nice 4 cylinder 2.3 litre Duratec motor that cranks out 151 horsepower. Don't get me wrong that is a sharp looking car. But over the Atlantic in Europe they have a faster and more sharp looking version of the Focus ST. The European ST is a hatchback (which their hatchback is completly redesigned front and back, not like here as the newer hatchbacks have only the front redone) which comes with very fast 5 cylinder 2.3 litre Duratec turbocharged motor that cranks out about 225 horses. I believe if Ford started to market the European version of the ST here in the States, they could compete very well with other cars that are in the same category. Such as the Chevrolet Cobalt SS and the Dodge Neon SRT-4. So does anyone know the reason why Ford will not bring the European ST over here to the States?

costs too much to build here and with german technology the cost would rise for shipping. ford has laidoff thousands here in the states and for a car that fast we dont have the speed limit like they do in germany.the autobohn has a limit of 85 kph which is about 105 mph so if you want one go to germany buy it then ship it back

First thing it has nothing to do with Fords current financial position. Ford has followed this market approach for many many years. As far back as the late 70's and early 80's. Just about every car they sell in the US as a European counter part that is far superior in horsepower, amenities, style & price. Like others have said they could bring these cars over to the US however the price tag that would go along with them would drive most Ford buyers off. The typical Amarican looks at a Ford as a moderatly priced car that the average working family can aford. In turn they look at the Eurapean cars as a step up or luxery car. If Ford where to introduce these European cars to the US market the average consumer would most likely pas it over as an over priced atempt to compete with BMW, Mercadies and Audie. There fore it would not be economicly sound for Ford to make this move.

Probably because they can't get emissions to make it under EPA specs... Also I think the union contracts limit the amount of vehicles Ford can import, as Ford hasn't built a Ford product for the North American market in a non NAFTA country in 10+ years.... (I think last was the aspire in 1997)

But I agree on Ford needing to bring australian and european designs to NA and letting the americans build them at least.... that would be the best way forward...

My guess would be that the 225 horsepower turbo would smoke the V-6 Mustang ( don't crucify me, its just a guess )
