It is a 98 dodge durango/SLT. It would cost me 1,500 dollars to replace the engine. I would probably end up selling it if I did fix it. Is it worth it or should I just give it to the junk yard and get whatever.

It does fine when I first start it, after a while, especially as the day goes on and it gets hotter, it has trouble accelerating... It sounds like it's grinding.. once it passes 65 it's fine... The air conditioner also died... My mechanic can't find what's wrong; he says the transmission and the gas systems are fine; he hooked it up to that machine but the machine says the car is fine. At times when I'm stepping on the gas trying to get it to go, the check engine like turns on and stays steady, but next time I drive the car, it's off. It is due for an oil change and the change oil lights up, but my mechanic saw that and he didn't mention that was it.. Please help.. anyone?!?!

I'm thinking of trading it in even though I know i'll have negative equity w/ the trade in. =(

I've got a 2002 Tahoe, with only 38,000 miles since new. A/C working fine then out of nowhere, cold air quit blowing, then a noise under the hood. By the time I was able to pull over, smoke was billowing out of the hood and the A/C Compressor was literally glowing RED HOT and sparks flying everywhere.

The car has never had a problem of any kind. Then this out of the blue - A/C never serviced as both front and rear have always been plenty cold once the initial heat is removed then with constant airflow thru the grille.

OK.. Guys... I can take it. What's the Bad News in this whole deal? How much hard earned bucks to fix this? Do I take the DEALERS word for it and just replace 'EVERYTHING' or question like I know something, which I do.. Will it in fact have to have new condenser, accumulator, expansion value, dryer and obviously a compressor? HOW MUCH?

Are there any in-line liquid line filters or suctions screens on this model Tahoe?

I have a 2000 model Chevy Astro with AWD. For some time now, it has developed a noise that sounds like a thumping underneath. The noise occurs after running up to speed and then letting off the gas. At about 40 and below, it does not occur. I have checked the U-joints visually, but they appear to be OK. I am suspecting the AWD transfer case as the source. Can any of you mechanically talented people shed any light on this one?

There aren't any manuals out there that instruct on how to remove it through the hood, just through the bottom. I've swapped motors and clutches in a 93 Nissan 240sx before, so I "sort of" know what I'm doing. Someone told me something from the suspension needs to be removed, the radiator, the plastic cowl piece below the windshield, and obviously the transmission. Does anything else need to be removed, and do any of these things need to be taken out some special way I'm not aware of (other than the lines attached to the motor)? I know the gas line needs to be de-pressurized before removing it, and drain all the coolant / oil obviously before disconnecting all those lines. Anything else?

Generation 6; The goofy looking ones they make now.
Gen. 5; 90s to 00s
Gen. 4; 1984- 90's
G. 3; 68-83 mako shark derivitive
G.2; 63-67 sting ray
That only leaves 1 more generation. It can't be 1953- 1962!, There is so much difference between the '53 ,with the blue flame 6+2 sp. powerglide , GM's attempt to make a Jaguar xk120, and the "62 there is no way a rational person would put both in the same generation. Maybe one could put the 53,54+55 in gen.1 and squeeze 56 to 62 into the same generation, but thery're at least 2 or 3. Perhaps they dont consider the 1st corvettes to be real corvettes, and count the '56 with the V8 and dual 4 barrels as the 1st corvette, and ignore the earlier ones? The guy who named the current generation G.6 must be some kind of a retard

The check engine light comes on when idling. Using a tester, the code indicates the IAC was not functioning. I replaced the IAC, the engine idles somewhat better, but at 1000 RPM, and the check engine light still comes on. I re-tested and the code is the same... #35, IAC. Any thoughts?
