Most of the time the problem with blinkers is a bad bulb which will make the blinker stay on at all times with no flash. The other problem with most of these cars is with the hazard switch/flasher module. This switch/module housese the hazard switch and flasher assembly along with the flasher assembly for the turn signals. If you are tapping on the hazard switch and the blinker starts to work, I'd say you've found the problem. Just dig out the assembly and replace it.

Sounds like a bad turn signal relay. A good car electrician should be able to find that problem easily.
