If you are talking about a stock engine, it depends on what vehicle it came out of and what RPO engine code was ordered. The highest compression '72 350 was the LT1 and it was only 9.0:1. The vast majority were 8.5:1. If it's been rebuilt at some point, it could be anything.

Before the clean air act of 1974 the Chevrolet 350 cui was 11 to 1 compression. Then came the end of the muscle car era with the catalytic converter and smog pump Sappho. Regardless of compression, smog pump, and converters, a car is just as polluting over lifespan... ...sorry, a little off track there. Hope I answered your question

most were 8.5 to 1 ........there was a rare 9.0 to 1......you,ll need to check the V.I.N. or the serial number.
