The 700 trans is better. The 200 was the first edition with a lock up converter that was not reliable. The 700 is a true version of an overdrive transmission. Although, they still have some problems but can be corrected/modified by a good transmission rebuilder.

The 700-4R transmission is stronger than the standard 700. It does however have a lower first gear than the worthless 200 three speed transmission. It also has an over-driven fourth gear. This was the standard automatic in Corvettes in the early 80's.

The 700 trans because its like having a 350TH with overdrive or a stock TH 400.
the 200 trans are weak and light, there not very fuel efficient.

i have a 700r4 and it is the best trany i ever spent money on and it works on so many engines and cars its not even funnie imine is currently in my 87 monte but it would bolt up to my 83 c-10 p/u and my 89 caprice with no modifying needed
