I am still listed as a dependent on my parent's income tax but made approximately $1700 last summer. Do I still have to pay income taxes?

I work for a real estate agent, and receive $8 dollars and hour, for forty hours a week. She said she will give me a 10-99 at the end of the year. I hope to be gone long before then.

I am holding back roughly 15% of my income. I came up with this calculation by an article on a website that had a formula. I will cut and paste the formula. Please tell me if this is correct because I don't want to owe a tremendous amount of taxes at the end of the year. The state I live in does not have a state tax.

Also, am I eligible to claim the mileage of driving to and from work. I don't go anywhere once at work though.

Or will I just pay 15% or more without having any deductions?

I know it sounds weird, but I am self employed as a secretary for a real estate company. I work 5 days a week, for forty hours. When I was hired, she told me that I will be considered an independent contractor and will have to take out my own taxes. I hate having to do it, but I don't have another job to fall back on.

At any rate, I know I have to take out 15% percent of my income for the extra burden of self employment tax. My husband is not working. We don't have any children. However, I was wondering if I would be able to claim the mileage of driving to and from work. I don't drive anywhere once at work though. I was previously told that claiming gas mileage is only possible if you are self employed, and is one of the perks of it.
I hope this is the case, because it seems like such a tremendous amount of tax to shell out each year.
I hope someone can clue me in, because I don't want to be side swiiped at the end of the year. Quarterly tax payments are not possible.

I know someone who had their mortgage foreclosed upon and received a 1099A for the difference. Their tax accountant said that Utah is a non-recourse state. Is that true?

We live in North Carolina and have sooo many taxes it is impossible to live here on "normal" wages! We get taxed on our cars for the life of the car, state tax, property taxes in our area that increased 95%, etc. We are trying to figure out how we can get things changed or at the very least, lightened up a bit. Any suggestions (other than moving) are welcome! :o)

In 2002, my husband got hit by a drunk driver on his motorcycle and was in ICU for weeks. His medical expenses were so high. He did not file his taxes for that year and in 2003 b/c he was so messed up from his accident. Then, later that year we met and in 2004 I went with him to file his taxes for all 3 years. At the time, I was not aware of being able to deduct his medical expenses. Am I able to file amended returns for those years, or is it too late?

I have joint custody of my daughter and live in Florida. My ex just had a baby from another father which she claims head of household. Is there any advantage to her claiming both kids under head of house hold. Or, is it to our advantage for me to keep head of house hold on our child and she keep head of house hold on the newborn?

So I am doing my taxes; itemizing.I get down to line 72- "Total Payments" I am told to subtract line 63 (Which in my case is $0) from Line 72 (My federal income tax amount). 63, being $0 would mean that I get it all back which I know is completely wrong. Also, It would nullify the entire rest of the form that I worked on. IF you have a clue of what I'm talking about, could you tell me where I went wrong?

I would choose 1040EZ over 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ coz of higher deductions (8150$ compared to 5150 or 3300), which means more tax back for me :D. Can it be done?? Will I have probs with the IRS ?

I want to mention I wanna do my own taxes, pls don't send me any links to tax-preparing companies...

Oh, and also, I have to mention I have spent more than 183 days in the US in 2006, does that qualify me to file a tax as a resident ?
