i already filed my taxes but afterwards i received a corrected w-2 form that supersedes the original w-2 form.

You will need to file Form 1040X by mail. To facilitate the filing of this form, you should prepare a new 1040 and print out a copy. Compare the original 1040 with the corrected 1040. You will report the changes on Form 1040X.

Note that you may also need to amend your state return depending on the nature of the correction and where you live.

You'll need a form 1040X. The easiest way to do it is to complete a whole corrected return, then lay that side by side with your original return - that will make it pretty easy to fill out the 1040X.

You just fill out the forms again, and write "Amended" at the top of the page. It works best for the IRS if you highlight this word, as well as any figures that have changed.
