I am still listed as a dependent on my parent's income tax but made approximately $1700 last summer. Do I still have to pay income taxes?

binda is mistaken. The 'kiddie tax' only applies to UNEARNED income. EARNED income must be on a separate return. With only $1700 in earned income, if you have no unearned income, you are not required to file and have no tax liability. If you had Federal income tax withheld, you are due a refund. You must file if you wish to claim the refund.

Yes. any time you make an income, generally you have to pay taxes. However, in your case you'll get back almost all of withholding tax you paid by filing a income tax return.

Unless $400 or more of your income was from self-employment, you won't owe any taxes. But if anything was withheld for federal income tax, you should file to get it refunded to you.

If you are getting an official check from your employer and has tax taking off your check, then yes, you still have to file taxes and pay income taxes.

I hope that's the answer you are looking for.
