The homes that are built on Extreme Make-over are beautiful. After everything is finished who pays the taxes on the house and the property taxes there after? The house is after all a gift to these deserving people.

I FILED MY TAXES ON FEBRUARY 8 AND THEY WERE ACCEPTED THAT DAT. THEN A FEW DAYS LATER I RECEIVED A LETTER STATING I OWED SOME TAXES FOR THE PREVIOUS YEAR. I WAS COMPLETELY UNAWARE OF THESE OWED TAXES AND HAVEN'T RECEIVED ANY NOTICE UNTIL NOW. EVEN THOUGH IT IS A SMALL AMOUNT I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE KNOWN EARLIER. WILL MY REFUND AMOUNT BE CHANGED MINUS THIS AMOUNT. OR CAN I DO THE PAYMENT PLAN. I HAD PLANS FOR THIS REFUND I WAS EXPECTING.

We efiled with H&R Block and they said that it would be direct deposited on 2/23 but when I checked "Where's my refund?" it said 2/27, do they just overestimate it in case there are errors? That's a Tuesday...I thought they only deposited on Fridays. Thanks in advance!

Plan on listing house for $650,000. We owe $220.000. Had hoped to have a nice nest egg at the end but am worried tax liability will eat up any proceeds. Any idea how big a hit this will be to our plans. We have hopes of buying a modest home in Boise area and invest the rest but have concerns of CA income tax as well as IRS.

Help. At the beginning of the year I was working for a company. All of my checks were direct deposits and I filled out a W-4 form when I first began working. Payroll taxes were coming out of my check every week. When I was ready to begin working on my taxes, I noticed that I received a 1099 form rather than a W2. I have no check stubs or anything to show that taxes were being taken out of my check, however I know they were. I received a W2 on last year from this employee and nothing changed on my end. I never signed a 1099 form stating that I was a contract employee and as stated, based on my salary and deposit amounts, I know taxes were still being withheld. What I think has happened is that he did not report or pay employee payroll taxes to the IRS and now he's trying to cover himself by sending me and several other employess 1099's although he was withholding the amount from our checks. HELP, what do I do? I am not prepared to pay back all that money in taxes.

I figured I owe about 2000.00 in taxes this year and have had a lot of medical expenses every year for the past 4 years, is there a way the IRS can deduct/take that money our of my 401K account? It would be the easiest for me for them to do that. If so, what do I need to do?

The reason being, tax season is upon us, and I have H&R Block's Basic TaxCut program. If it actually helps, I am willing to spend the $30 to get an increase on my tax return. If not, then I'll just stick to the program I have now.

I don't have much to file, only two W-2 forms and a couple of things to claim (Union dues, and donations). So if it won't make a big difference, then I won't spend the extra money. Also, is Quicken or H&R Block's program better?

The company I work for hired me as an Independent Contractor. At the time, I didn't really know what that meant, but have since discovered that we were wrongly classified and are truly employees of the company. Now I am going to be liable for a self-employment taxes and other taxes that my employer would have been responsible for. What can I do now to fix this situation?
