I have already filed my 2006 taxes and have now found further deductions that could possibly get me more than $500 back. Is there something I can do to claim these or am I screwed?

According to the IRS's Where's My Refund website, it says my refund was direct deposited to my account on the 16th, last Friday. I check my account balance with my debit card and it doesn't show any new money.

As today is a holiday and it happened on a Friday, possible Friday night, do you think I'll have it in my account tomorrow? I bank at a small credit union, does someone at the bank have to actually credit my account? How does it work?

A Politicain can wear a suit at work, and at a dinner, a party, nightclub, church, and it is deductible.

Let me assume here *sarcasm*... ...So my grease covered, burned up and stinking Carharts are "OK" to wear elsewhere, thus cannot be tax deducted. Let me show up at Jury Duty wearing that!

These items cannot be tax deductible, because they can be worn at places other than at work:
- Denim jeans or cotton pants
- Cotton long-sleeve shirts
- Cotton head cap, or handkerchief
There are a few more items, but I don't know what they are, being that I never deducted them. Not worth the time.

Obviously I don't show up to work naked, so "something" must be deductable. The items I mentioned above are specifically REQUIRED as per OSHA and within all safety rules at the jobsites that I go to.

I have filed tax return for the past many years and either paid owed tax or received the refund.

But I would like to re-calculate the tax amount for year 2002, because I might have over paid the owed tax.

Is it possible to re-file that far back? Any penalty?
I have seen on TV commercials that Tax refund agencies like H&R Block can re-check the 2005 tax year and get your money back if you have overpaid.

For the year 2002, is it too late?

Does anyone know?

I am on full disability (SSDI), I won $10,200.79 on a game on Television. They are sending me a form to fill out for taxes (think it was 1099?) and an affidavit, once that's sent back I get the check in 10 days. My 2 questions are.....
1.Do I have to pay taxes on that money?
2.Aren't I able to make a certain amount of money each year without paying taxes on it?

Thanks for your help. harleynh

Can I claim an oklahoma inmate as a dependant on my tax return? This individual was claimed on my 2005 taxes because this person lived with me for more than half that year, but as an inmate for 2006 I have continiously sent money to him for his hygiene like toothbrush, shoes, clothes, snacks, etc.... I have kept the money order reciepts that I sent to this person, When i was doing my taxes it asked me if I supported him for half the year and in a way I strongly feel that I did. This person I have lived with for 5 years before being an oklahoma inmate. - Appreciate any answers- thank you kindly

I have a condo in GOZONE property and I'm considering electing the bonus depreciation. We plan on selling the unit within two years. What are the tax consequences of doing so, I know I will have to recapture depreciation to ordinary income, but does this include the bonus depreciation? Any help appreciated.
Thanks

I screwed up and filed my federal return on citizentax.com and have to file state taxes as a part year resident in MO and IL. These aren't yet supported by citizentax so now I am searching for a site where you can file ONLY state taxes for a relatively cheap fee.

I've received a few letters from the Orange County California Tax Collectors stating that I owe back taxes for Unsecured Property Taxes and I am confused why I'm continually getting them.
The taxes are for a house that my mother owned from 1987-2005 (October), but my mom passed away and we sold the house. But now I keep receiving the letters stating they have reassessed that property for 2003 and 2004 and that I owe a good chunk of money. I also paid some taxes already for the same years after the place sold, but now I'm receiving more.

Can someone explain why I would be receiving this?

Here's a link to the property that is in question.
http://tax.ocgov.com/tcweb/search_addr.asp?streetname=23265%20%20COSO&req_string=23265%20coso%20Mission%20Viejo&t_city=MV&t_page=0

Are unsecured property taxes only for vessels, tractors and such or can it be applied to houses? Also, shouldn't these back taxes be owed by the new owner?

So confused.
Thanks for your help!

I've filed my Schedule C for Federal taxes...but am not certain about filing State Taxes for the state where I did the contract work. The amount is very small...so it may not be necessary to file, but I'd like to hear what you all have to say about it. :)

Hi, I am in the process of preparing my income tax return, and I was hoping someone could advise me on the following:
1) A friend of mine warned me that being paid by cash or check may be illegal, since it hints at activity that is being done under the table. Now this of course has alarmed me, and I do want to pay my taxes. Is he correct?
2) I babysat for a couple of families on a part-time basis. I considered myself a contractor, so I am using Schedule C. But I did not receive a 1099 from the families. I can still file Schedule C without being penalized for not having a 1099, right?
3) I was unfortunately bad with accounting. I don't have an exact idea of how much I made, but I do have a pretty good idea of how much I earned, since I can estimate the hours per week I worked. Any advice on this matter.

Thank you so much.

When my wife changed her name with the Army (she is a medical student in the Health Professionals Scholarship Program who gets a monthly stipend), they had her state of residence as Kansas for one month. We corrected the error, but when he W-2 came they still had Kansas listed in section 15. How should we handle any taxes owed?
