I worked for a very sketchy employer for a couple of months last year, and he has not sent me a W2 form. I joined his bank when I worked for him, since it was close to the office, and I received something from the bank stating that I need to claim the $25 in interest I gained from my account. Here's the fishy part...there is no way I gained $25 in interest from my account, especially since I banked there for only 2 months, and basically lived paycheck to paycheck. I found out my payroll was basically being taken out of his own personal checking account, and think my ex-employer is trying to pull a fast one on me and the government. Can anyone explain this to me? I certainly don't want to get in any trouble.

I owned a business and it was sucking me dry, so I sold it. I received $100k for it but I receive it over a 3 yr period with monthly payments. I had such a hard time during my ownership that I wasnt able to pay alot of the tax bills that were due and now I am left oweing about $20,000 in debt to workers comp, ohio tax, fed tax, etc. I wass told by someone that since I sold the business that I could settle for less on alot of this debt. Is this true, I have liens, all kinds of letters coming in I need help. I dont have the money to pay this thats why I am in this poisition.

I just received a notice from our state's tax & rev that I didn't clam a small amount of interest income on my 2005 return. Do I need to file an ammended 2005 return, or can I include that on my 2006 return? How do I find out what pentalties may have been imposed on me from the IRS? The notice came in the form of a 1099-INT. ---Thank you for your help.

I live in North Carolina. The state has caught up w/ me & wants me to pay what's owed. If I had it I would. Can they garnish my wages? That'd be ok as long as it wasn't more than $300/month or so. I've tried looking for a lawyer but they're booked thru April. I know, it was stupid not to pay but what should I do now? I'd like to work out a payment plan but after my only conversation with them I'm told I have to pay it in 3 payments at most, I can't afford it. I'm a single parent of 2 kids so I'd really like to avoid jail.... what's your advise? I'd like to head over action by the IRS also.

I've been e-filing every year since it became available. I always got my direct deposited refund in 4 or 5 days. My ex e-filed and it took hers almost two weeks. I e-filed 4 days ago and was wondering if I have that long a wait also. Just trying to get some feedback from those who have e-filed with dd this year.

I am not sure how to report the shares that were bought with dividend money.

let's say I bought 10 shares of certain mutual fund for 10 dollars, and I received 20 dollars as dividends and automatically reinvested and bought 2 more shares, then I sold all 12 shares.

How should I report the 2 extra shares? I received 1099-div for the dividends and 1099-b for the transactions.

thanks

i am engaged to a man who has two other children from a previous relationship. its a very complicated situation, but he owes back child support. the child support is now automatically deducted from his paychecks each week and has been for years. for the past few years when he has filed, the refunds that he gets automatically go to the guardian of the children for the back child support that he owes. my question is what is the best way for us to file so that we can make sure to get the money that we should from our refund? i am a new mom, i had my baby in december of last year so i can claim her on my taxes, but we did not know if we should file jointly, separately, etc...if we file jointly, and we receive money back bc of the newborn, will this money automatically be taken and sent for his back child support? is it best that we file separately and i claim our baby so that we are guaranteed that money? i do not understand the tax process well and need some advice. thank you!
