hello everybody. well i filed my taxes about 1 week ago and today I went on-line to check the status of my refund and it gave me an error code and told me to contact the irs office, I know someone had recently posted this same question a few weeks back, did you ever find out what that meant? does that mean your refund is delayed? thanks....

It could mean that they are reviewing your return. That is what others with error codes have said upon checking with the IRS.....Just check again in a few days and see if they have updated your status. If they haven't then you know that they are still reviewing it and you won't be getting your direct deposit on Friday. Usually on Wednesday morning is when the site updates--Here is the efile refund chart---http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p2043.pdf

If you did not have an error code, you would be getting your direct deposit on 2/23. Hope that clears up soon for you. :(

There are dozens of error codes, depending on when you filed your return, it could be that they just received it and it has not yet begun to be processed, to there is an error on the return.

If you filed before Thursday 12pm, you should have your refund by this Friday as long as there are no problems with the return.
If you filed after Thursday 12pm then you should see your refund the Friday after next.

Update

8002 means that there was an error on your return that is delaying the processing, in could be a problem with a Social Security Number or an addition error, Call the IRS @ 1-800-829-1040, push option 2 and then hit 0 a few times to get to live assistance, there is a long hold time due to the volumne of calls during this time of year. A Representative should be able to search your account to see what the problem is.
The phones are open from 7 am to 10pm Mon -Fri
(except 02/20/2007 it is a Federal Holiday and they are closed)

It depends on what the error code is. But yes, it almost certainly means that your refund is delayed. If you repost with the error code that you got, someone can probably give you more detail on what's happening.

Just because you got this message doesn't necessarily mean something is wrong - it can be it's just being looked at.
