On the 1040ez I receive 150 return. On the 1040 form I receive a 2500 return. Why is that? Is it OK for me to file the 1040? I am single and unmarried.

A 1040EZ is exactly what it says EZ, but you may have deductions to your income that is taxed because 1040 breaks it down more. I would try 1040A it is shorter than 1040 and almost as easy as 1040EZ. It probably covers your deductions.

You can file a 1040 EZ so long as your taxable income is less than $100,000 and your taxable interest is less than $1,500. You can file using the 1040 form under all circumstances.

Are your itemized deductions on the 1040, Schedule A form significantly over $5,150? If so, the difference in the refund probably arises because under the 1040 EZ form, you can only take a $8,450 standardized deduction.

If you were filling out each form correctly, the amounts would be the same. If you want to post again giving more details, somebody can probably figure out which is wrong and which is right.

If you want to email me with your income and withholding, and whether you are a dependent or have any dependents, feel free.

The amount of tax due does NOT depend on which form you file, so something is wrong somewhere.
