I've filed my Schedule C for Federal taxes...but am not certain about filing State Taxes for the state where I did the contract work. The amount is very small...so it may not be necessary to file, but I'd like to hear what you all have to say about it. :)

Does anyone know what the non-taxable ceiling might be for NC? (I only earned a total of 1,200 there last year)

Thanks!

you may need to file Form DC-400 as a non-resident of NC. see the instructions below, page 13, and fill out the worksheet. have your federal tax return handy.

Yes, you file a return in NC because that's where you did the work -- assuming that you earned more than their non-taxable ceiling amount. You also file in your home state if they have an income tax but you'll get a credit for the taxes paid to NC.
