I am on a H1-B visa in the US. My organization is originally based abroad but they pay me through a subsidiary in the US. I have been in the US for more than 183 days. Since i am originally based out of the country - can i deduct my rent in the US as a business expense?

Would you be considered a consultant on location and hence the rent becomes a deductible unreimbursed business expense?

No, rent is not deductible.

If you were required to maintain a home office for the convenience of your employer and if it otherwise meets the tests for a home office deduction, a portion of your rent might be deductible (based on the realtive area used exclusively as a home office) as part of the home office deduction.

No. Rent is not deductible. Wishful thinking though. Just not in touch with reality.
