You definitely put the income on the Federal return and you do have to pay taxes on that income. You are correct that the form you should have received is a 1099-G. It should have been mailed to you by law no later than Jan 31, 2007 just like all W-2's. I would contact the unemployment agency and attempt to obtain another copy. Many home computers can be set to receive faxes. If yours is one of them, they may fax you a copy. If you have your return prepared by a tax prep company like H&R Block, many times you can get a copy faxed to the Block office to your attention. If all that fails, by all means declare the income since you know the amount. Even though you didn't get your copy, you can bet the IRS got their copy and if what you report is less than what they show you were paid, they will suspect you are trying to hide income and not report it all. You didn't say if you plan to file electronically, or fill it out by hand and mail it. If you fill it out and mail it, and you can't figure out where else to put the income, put it on Line 21 on Form 1040 and in the space provided write that it is "Ohio Unemployment Compensation. No 1099-G". We don't have State Income Tax in Texas, so I don't know the answer as to whether it's taxable to the State too. Hope this helps.

Unemployment income is taxable to the fed and the state has informed the IRS that you received it. Unless you want to risk an audit or have the IRS recalculate your return, you should claim what you actually received. Maybe you didn't receive the 1099G because you moved........??

ok you itemized. Did you itemize the state taxes or take sales tax? could you itemize the state taxes then you mostly DID get a earnings from the state earnings tax and the refund ought to be delivered lower back. (look into your 2006 tax return. if youin case you had claimed $3 hundred much less in state earnings taxes, would your tax refund have decreased? particular, then that is taxable.) If that is taxable, wait different than nearer to 4/15 and report an amended return.

check out the website for OH unemployment. you can create an account, or call them for the info.

you would report it on both federal and state tax returns, as it is taxable income to both.

Contact the state and tell them you didn't get a 1099. They'll send a replacement.
