There are two levels of the Child Tax Credit. First, if you owe taxes, those taxes are reduced up to $4,000 ($1,000 per child under 17, disabled has no effect on the credit).
Second, if you did not owe enough tax to use up the Child Tax Credit, and you had income over $11,300, then you may get some Additional Child Tax Credit. With three or more children, the Additional Child Tax Credit is limited to the difference of the Earned Income Credit and the Social Security taxes you paid.

The child tax credit it $1000 per child undeer age 17 if your total tax is that much. It can only take your total tax to zero. But if your total tax isn't enough to take it all, you would be eligible for an Additional Child Tax Credit - you get that back whether you owe anything or not.
There is no additional credit for one of the children being disabled.

Child Tax Credit only reduces your taxes. It is NOT a refund. The Additional Child Tax Credit will give you a refund, and based on your income, can be a decent amount of money back. You may also qualify for Earned Income Credit if your combined income is not more than $38,000 a year.

i am in the low income catagory but now you can only claim two children at $1000. a piece but disabled you should claim you need to call your local tax prep person . by the way if you and your husband works he can claim two and you can claim 2 that will be $4000. right off good luck
