I hope you are not in a state which requires its residents to file state and federal at the same time if you file electronically. If I remember correctly, NJ was like that a few years ago. I never understood why.

The State return isn't due until April 17, 2007. From www.irs.gov you can link to your state and download your state form. Most state forms closely follow the data produced in the Federal return. Using the Federal form you already have done as a guide, it may not be as hard as you would think to fill out the state form yourself. Extra copies of your W-2 were sent to you for the purpose of including with your state return. At the bottom of each W-2 is the state information including how much of your wages were subject to state tax, and how much was withheld during the year to pay them. Or if you had rather, most tax software including H&R Block's TaxCut and also Turbo-Tax have add on provisions for adding state returns to the Federal one. You might check your software author. Some states allow electronic filing of state returns, and others do it the old way by mail.

It varies by state, but check your state website. Many of them have a function to let you file your state return at no charge.
