The cost of tax preparation depends on who is doing your taxes. If you go to CPA or EA, expect to pay $200 plus.

If you are familier with tax rules use one of the FREE tax software like taxact ( see details http://www.bestonlinetaxpreparation.com/products/taxact.html) .

If you need some assistance and you qualify ( income less than 39K) contact a VITA center they will prepare and file your taxes FREE.

At the company I work for, the more forms that are required, the more expensive it becomes. It starts this year at about $51 for a 1040EZ with one W-2, no dependents. An average this year is about $150 since the average client has has dependents, qualifies for the Earned Income Credit, Child Tax Credit or other things that call for additional forms.

If you have 2 W-2's, it costs $47.00 at H&R Block. If you have more than 2, it will cost more but I'm not sure how much. If you are a company, it costs a lot!!
