I really need my tax refund ASAP. I have a simple return, and the only item I lack is the 1099-G form from my state (NC) that shows some unemployment insurance benefits I received last year. That state office reports that they won't have these forms out to recipients or available on their website until January 31st. Reporting this income made absolutely no difference when I did my 1040 online, because my total income for last year was so low, and I'm a single mom, head of household. I know the amount I received in benefits, and that I paid no taxes on it, but the 1040 asks for other identifying info and numbers that I don't have. Can I just leave the UIB off the return, or put it somewhere else on the 1040?

Specifically, how do I handle a tax form for a refund that my ex and I received from our state of Georgia 2005 return. I know that it must be counted as income. The problem is that we filed jointly last year and now we must file as singles. The tax form shows both of our names but only his SSS number. I am willing to count the income as mine but I am concerned that he may be held accountable at some point because it is tied to his SSS number. Any help will be greatly appreciated! As I mentioned above, the state tax refund is from Georgia.

I'm in the military. My wife and I are from different states. When we got a new assignment, I kept my home state residency and pay my taxes there (cheaper), while she has to pay taxes in the new location. Would like to make her a resident of my state to save some money on taxes, but can't tell if it's legal or feasible.

My hubby and I like getting a lot back each time tax season comes around, its kind of like getting a bonus for us. We have been filing as married filing separate, but wondering if we are losing out on a lot? For example, I can't deduct student loans when we file separate. Also, since I started my last job (4 months) I have put "married" instead of the usual married but separate. Did I just totally screw up our taxes? We use Turbotax each year and it always asks how we filed. Not sure how to put that I filed two different ways this year (2 different jobs). Would appreciate some advice!
