ex claimed $1,416 in medical deductions on 2005 taxes. i reimbursed ex for this amount in february 2006. how is the rectified with the irs? should i inform them that i made the reimbursement? will they include it as income for ex's 2006 taxes?

No, the fact that you reimbursed her has nothing to do with taxes. If insurance had reimbursed her, then it would be taxable income. Reimbursement from a private party isn't. And it's not deductible to you.

If you gave money to your ex-spouse and it is not alimony, it is not income to your ex-spouse. If your ex-spouse paid deductible medical expenses then the ex-spouse gets to deduct them even if you reimburse the ex-spouse.

Do nothing. Since you did not pay it directly to a medical provider you cannot deduct it yourself. As you cannot deduct it these expenses are not taxed to your ex.
