In june I quit my job. A little while after I quit I moved, but I forgot to tell my old employer that I have moved. Will I still get my W2's at my new address if I did a change of address with the post office? or odes it matter?

All of my work this year was through a temporary agency. I am an "employee" of the agency and receive a W-2. However, they don't cover expenses like health insurance and parking. I pay these myself. Can I write these off on my taxes or can you only take itemized deductions if you receive a1099 as an independent contractor?

Im using Turbotax to file our taxes this yr for my new husband and I. Ive just done my own but now that Im married, we are filing jointly. So I went to the Turbotax site to buy the program and I was going to be the deduction maximizer but I see there is one for people who invest and declare their earnings from stocks and bonds etc. My husband has a Charles Schwab acct set up through his company for his 401K. Its managed by them and gets automatically diversified. We dont know much about how it works but its growing so we dont worry too much about it.

Do we declare its growth as an earning? And how do we find out how much it grew in 2006 alone? Would the investment program be the best one to buy as opposed to the cheaper version?

I had started to work in NYC "under the table" for the first couple of weeks. Then my employer asked me for my s.s. # and how many exemptions I was claiming, then witheld taxes each pay period. I told her I needed to fill out a W2 with my signature, but she never provided one. I don't have any pay stubs because I received only checks without details of the witholding. What should I do? If she is not reporting it to the IRS, I want my money back. If she is, how can I receive a W2 if I never signed one? Do I need to file a complaint against her?

A flat tax.....federal sales tax....or keep it the same.
Or is there a better way.
I believe the federal sales tax would be better because the wealthy tend to buy more costly items and would end up paying more.
And explain your reason for your answer.

Can a preparer efile directly through the irs for free? I work for a company preparing taxes, but we can only do 2 free returns per year. I have lots of friends and family that would like me to do their taxes for them and I would feel bad charging them especially what the company I work for charges. What are some other options if it is not free?

I need to take a drug test for my job tomorrow morning. The last time I smoked marijuana was on December 3. I was a fairly heavy pot smoker, several bong hits a day...I had cut back about two weeks before I totally stopped. The last day I smoked was December 3. HELP! (I don't have time to take any drinks or potions!)

I get a lump sump payment from my employer that is meant to cover mileage and labor pay for emergency service calls I perform. The mileage varies on a case-by-case basis, but the payment and tax withheld are always the same amounts. The call detail report I submit for the payment makes no mention of or provision to record mileage amounts. I also wonder how I should handle this on my income tax.

For a 1099 contractor during 2006, is the business expense calculated from schedule C be counted as "credits" or "itemized deduction"?

I'd like to use the standard dection, because stanadard deduction is higher than itemized deduction. If I do that can I write off business expense as "Credits" on line 9 of Form 1040-ES to reduce my estimated tax?

I have asked a similar question a few times, and I wanted to clarify my situation in the hopes of being able to get the most accurate answer. I was hired to work as a secretary for 40 hours a week at a rate of 8 dollars an hour. My employer told me that I will need to do my own taxes, and she will not deduct them for me. I will not be filling out a W4 form at work. I was told that I would need to pay my taxes quarterly. This is brand new to me, and I am worried. I am trying to figure out how much money I will need to take out of each weekly pay check so that I don't get into a situation of owing more taxes than I can afford to pay. My husband is not working, and we are on a very tight budget. I need to know how much to save each week for taxes, because every penny counts!

I went to Express Tax in Millwaukee, WI in January 2006 to file my 2005 tax. I was approved for a RAL loan; however I was not informed at that time that I was due to receive the balance of my federal refund by check. It was not until today when I went to H&R block that I found out that I was due the balance.
When I contact Express tax service that informed me that the check was sent to there office and signed by some one who apparently frauded me out of my refund. Who can I contact to bring legal action against this company I did not even know about it and if I had received the check it would have been deposited into my personal credit union account. I feel that I have been scammed. Do I contact the IRS? Should I contact the bank and let them know I never received a check? When I asked the people at this company they refused to give me the name of the bank.

I have done a lot of research on self employment taxes, and have the following information from ehow.com: Instructions
STEP 1: Figure out your net income from self-employment. Net income is typically your total business receipts minus your total business deductions. STEP 2: Multiply your net income from self-employment by 0.9235 (or 92.35 percent). STEP 3: Multiply the amount of your net earnings that is $76,200 or less by 0.153 Add your two answers together. This is your self-employment tax. STEP 4: Report your self-employment tax on Schedule SE of the 1040. Tips & Warnings
You can deduct half of your self-employment tax in determining your adjusted gross income. Do this in the Adjustments section of the 1040.

My question is WHERE do I deduct the 1/2 of the self employment tax?

I will be working 40 hours a week at 8$ an hour. How can I figure out how much tax to take out of each pay check?

I am starting a job tomorrow where I will be considered "self employed". I will be working as a full-time secretary at a Real Estate agency and will be responsible for handling my own taxes. Apparently this is a common situation at jobs here in TN. I have been doing a lot of research on self employment taxes, and it doesn't seem to be as bad as I thought it might be. (I was warned that I would be paying more in taxes than if an employer took out the taxes.) I am curious if anyone has any straightforward and EASY tips on how to I could figure out that taxes I will need to hold back from each pay check so that I don't run into trouble with owning too much when I pay my taxes quarterly. I will be claming married with 2, because my husband is not working, and I am the sole provider in my household.

I am a stay at home mom. Will we get more back for our tax refund because my husband now has 3 dependents with one income?
Also, I am curious about the H & R Block instant loan. Do they do it if you have your W2 to go off of instead of a pay check stub?

After looking over my taxes, I have another question - If I do allow my soon-to-be-ex to claim my daughter from previous marriage as his dependent, but he does not qualify for the EIC. Can't I claim her just for the sole purpose of EIC since I do provide all of her expenses??? (I don't qualify for the Child Tax Credit due to no tax liability based on my income, but the soon-to-be-ex gets the Child Tax Credit, claiming her, but he does not qualify for the EIC.) I already claim my college student son for the EIC, but if I also claimed my daughter I would get a larger EIC credit.
