Am I able to write off a donation made to a not for profit organization which is newly established but does not have the official "not for profit" status? They are a legitimate fund raising organization which donates any monies raised to other not for profit pet organizations.

I bought a townhouse 1 year ago and I've been living with my only brother. We pay the mortage 50:50 but only my name is on the title. When filing 2006 tax returns, can we both deduct the mortage interests?

Also, how do I add my brother's name to the title?

I know this is probably a complicated formula, but if someone could give me a general idea, I'd be grateful. In 2006 I made (gross) $18,424. I paid 1,648 in federal taxes. I'm single, no dependents, no assets or any kind of IRA or anything like that. But no one can claim me as a dependent of theirs, either. So I'm pretty much alone.

Will I get any money back? Will I end up owing more? :(

I make around $38,200 a year. Of that, $8,200 went to taxes. $4,156 for Federal Withholding, $463 for Fed MED/EE, $1,981 for Fed OASDI/EE, and $1,597 for CT withholding. I'm single with no dependents. Can someone give me a rough estimate as to how much I will get on my tax return? Thank you very much!

My 22 year old daughter and her 3 1/2 year old daughter and now 7 week old daughter have lived with me and my wife all this past year. She has not worked enough to file head of household for herself , so she wants to let us claim her and my two Grandaughters on our income tax since we supported all of them. Is this legal ?

I just received my form from my landlord stating the amount of money I paid in rent in 2006, for doing my taxes. But the amount is VERY wrong, it's short by a thousand dollars. (I know this because I lived there for only October, November and December in 2006, so that math wasn't hard to do)...can I change the amount to be correct? Would that benefit me, in a refund sense?

I filed my taxes on the 12th. I can't wait to get that money...over $7300. IIt's bought us a house. I changed my husbands W4 so he was taxed at a really high rate this year to ensure a big refund. I know I know it's an interest free loan to the government but you gotta do what you gotta do to save money. We are not savers so we used Uncle Sam. Anyhoo...back to my original question...Is there a specific say that the IRS issues direct deposits? Also, is a tax refund that high going to set off some kind of alarm causing a further delay? Anyone have any answers?
