I got this message when checking the status of my 2006 refund:

We have received your tax return and it is being reviewed. You will receive a notice from us requesting additional information from you. When you receive the notice, please provide the requested information within 30 days. You may not receive all or a part of your refund until we receive and review the information we requested from you. If you need more information after you receive our notice, call the number on the notice.

What does this mean, what do they want?

My husband and I married in Nov 06'. We purchased a $125,000 home in June 06' (mortgaged $100,000) and did extensive renovations (approx. $15,000 worth, new floors, roof, cabinets/countertops, bathtub, etc.) I am pregnant with our first child. Our combined income is approximately $25,000.

*Should we file married, filing jointly? or married, filing seperately?
*Should we take the standard deduction or itemized deduction?
*Is there a tax credit for buying a home, doing renovations and getting married?
*About how much is it to hire someone to do our taxes?

We have no clue what we are doing, any help would be appreciated.

This is our first tax time with having our new baby. How much do you get back for having one child usually? How do they figure it out?

My husband is about to start a job where he is classified as self-emplyoed. His salary will start at $31k per year. I am a student, and we have 1 daughter. About what percentage should we set aside for taxes? (I know you can't give me an exact answer, but I just need a worse case scenario)

I worked two job at the same time in '06. Does that mean I will get less money back when doing my taxes? I have placed one in Turbo tax and its says I get money back, but I heard that once I put my other in, then I will loss money. How true is this?

I live in OH. I inherited an IRA in 2006. I closed the account out ($25,000) and asked that they take out the appropriate amount in taxes (so I wouldn’t get hit with owing at tax time and might get money back). They informed me that I had to tell them how much I wanted taken out (what %). I am now hoping I did a good job of overestimating– but am fearful. I had them take out 30%. They then deducted $7,500 off the $25,000. How did I do? (Gezzz I hate tax time.) Also, does Turbo Tax accept information related to something like this? Or would it be better if I went to a human with tax knowledge ?

How is this so! I would think there is going to be a set amount that you are going to get back if you give them the exact information. H&R Block, Jackson Hewitt companies like that

My husband owes $500 in child support from when he was off work due to surgery. We were told if we file together his child's mother will receive it all even if it is over what he owes to her. We were told to file separately. Should we do so? I need help with this issue ASAP!!

I filed my 2006 tax return and checked the status online and it stated that they will be mailing me a letter requesting more information before they will release my refund. What does that mean? What could they possibly want?

My consulting business did well enough this year that I had a bit of money due to the IRS. I planned on setting up an IRA this year since I'm in my mid-twenties. I like the tax-free potential of the Roth, but I also need to lower my AGI this year. Would it make sense to open and contribute a portion of my wages to a traditional account and deduct what I need to break even on taxes, and throw the rest into a Roth account? Not exceeding the $4,000 limit on contributions of course... The fees on the accounts should be negligable, considering that I'm working primarily with an Internet broker.

I just got a new house last year and my taxes are paid through an escrow account with my lender. However I see in my statements that the amount that has been taken out since I have moved in is to pay 2007 taxes. Did I pay the taxes in 06 in my closing costs or did the lender? If I did what document would show me this info?

I used taxact last year to do our taxes, we are both self employed. Before last year we had always used H&R block. My husband wants us to go back to H&R block because he says we are more likely to get audited if they see that we did our own taxes. But they charge us about $380.00 to do our taxes. What do you think we should do?

When we bought our home I put my son's name on the deed to avoid his having to pay whopping inheritance taxes. In the event of my inevitable demise, he is already on title and just assumes full rather than partial ownership of the property.

Now somebody tells me that this will actually cause legal confusion & result in his paying whopping capital gains taxes upon our demise when he sells the real estate, and that it's better to leave it as part of the estate for him to inherit and dispose of. Which is true?

My buddy gets what is called a truck allowance for his work truck. It is not taxed. The loan is in his name. He also has a gas card to fill up daily for work use. Can he claim anything or file for any type of reimbursement such as mileage or what not? Please point me to an official source if you know of one. Thanks
