My fiance's mom is planning on claiming her granddaughter and the mom on her taxes but the girl's mom may claim both of them two. What would happen and who would get to claim them? One is going to have the girl sign a form saying that she has premission to claim them, and the other doesn't. But they have lived with my fiance's mom since the beginning of April. I'm just wondering, because I was told whoever filed first would get it and I was just trying to find out if she needed to go ahead and file or what.

Your client is a manufacturer. For several years, the company buried empty paint cans on its property. The paint was used in the production process. Recently, a state environmental agency informed the company that it was required to dig up the paint cans and decontaminate the land. The company spent a substantial amount for this environmental cleanup in the current year. An IRS agent contends that the cost must be added to the basis in the land because the cleanup improved the land. The company’s CFO has asked you to determine if any authority exists that would support a current deduction for these costs.

I heard I can do two things to increase my return, one is to write of my medical expenses like copays, deductibles met, Rx copays and I also heard since I live in Texas I can also write off sales taxes from groceries and such? I am a single Mom and I really want to try and figure this out. My dad plans to file my taxes for me with Turbo tax, but has not heard of these deductions before.

I need to build up social security credits before retirement and want to know how I can use rental income to qualify for the self employment tax as it is usually exempt? This is the only real income I have and my husband's income is his pension.

Trying to do my taxes and a bit confused on what is considered a tax credit for the Hope Credit or Lifetime Credit. My qualified tuition and expenses are $3176.00 while the Scholarships/Grants is 2901.00. The difference is 275$. I did a student loan for $1750. Im not paying anything on the loan yet, im still in school. But my question is what do I get back? I understand you get money back on a loan, but not the scholarships if they are directed towards the tuition and expenses. I know the Hope Scholarship is directed towards to tuition, but not sure about the Pell. Im sure its a dumb longshot, but what if I claim my loans towards the tuition rather than the Pell? I've read all sorts of sources, but nothing really explains what is "priority" payment on tuition over another type of payment. Its probably more SAFE to just claim the 275$ on loans....GIVE ME SOME ADVICE! Thanks!

Just wondering if I can claim my daughter's tutoring. I have paid $40-$80 a week for the entire year. If so, will I need to supply a receipt from the personal tutor or can I just supply copies of my personal checks. Thank you for taking time to read and respond to this.

I'm planning to buy 6 or so sweaters from Japan to sell on eBay and I was wondering how the tax/law works on them. Each cost $2,000, so they are NOT going to overlooked if opened by the customs

Will I have to be an "importer" in order to do so, or do I not need such status?

If I happen to get audited by IRS, I don't want to into trouble by not following the right steps to buy goods from overseas, so please let me know in detail.

Thank you.

Hello,
I am doing my own taxes and I need help on something. On the W-2 to send to the state and federal places only 15,16,17 (boxes) are filled in and on my copy 15,16,17 are blank and 18,19,20 are filled in. When I am doing my taxes on line should I go ahead and fill in 15-20 just to be safe or is 18,19,20 not required?
I am so lost!
