I am married- my husband works full time and I do not work (I am a student). We also have one child. What is the best choice on the w4 to get the most money in each paycheck? How many exemptions should my husband put? 3? Also should he file married and filing separately?

I currently claim 20. Because I know I will have little or not tax due. If you itemize you should take more, but if it is just you 3 then 4 is good. There is a worksheet that you can use that is a part of the back of form w-4, that help you calculate the withholding number.

I'd suggest Married and 1 - possibly 2, but that would be max. About midway through the year evaluate your tax status by doing an estimate and adjust as needed, if needed.

File married filing jointly even if you have no income.
